Can you get pictures with a better camera? No offense (and I'm sure it's because of the camera and lighting), but those look craptastic. Hahaha.

That said, I can imagine what they look like in person and I'm sure it's beautiful :) I seriously love everything you're doing to this car. Like, everything you've done is EXACTLY what I would have done to it as well. I commend your great taste in auto styling. Lol.

it's because I've been getting accustomed to using my phone. the time/effort to post a pic with it is far less. lazy, I know. i'll see what I can do about taking the extra two minutes from now on. :smt019

Hahaha oh I know how easy it is, no need to justify it. Maybe you could just snap a few quality pictures when you have them installed and whatnot?

What kind of paint do you use? I've been thinking about painted the valve covers while the engine is out.

VHT wrinkle paint. says it'll stand 300 degrees, so should be good enough for valve covers. and an intake if you so wish. ;)

Where did you get it at? Did you just spray it on directly on the metal or was there any prep?

I don't know much about painting.

Did you get into trouble for having those covers on that nice table?

You should have, Subaru or not!

the only prep was to clean with brake clean to get some oil left behind off of the outside, taped off what I didn't want to get painted, wiped with some wax/grease remover prior to paint, then sprayed away. 24 hours later good to go. 48 hours later, ready to install. want pics?

I'd like to see a picture with better lighting. It's hard to tell what they actually look like now in that picture.

I love wrinkle finish, but in dirty locations like an engine bay, I worry that the texture will be difficult to clean.

I might tend to go more towards the hammertone finish, if not just smooth paint.

That being said, a friend of mine recently finished a beautiful hand made intake plenum on an all aluminum V8 stuffed neatly into an MGA. Black wrinkle with an MG logo attached. Looks fantastic.

I bet your valve covers look great too. I just hope they stay that way after you start driving the car!

Another thing I've been hesitant about is painting it a dark color like that. I want to be able to spot an oil leak and exactly where it's coming from so I can fix it. But it might be hard to see if I paint my valve covers black.

Any ideas of a brighter color that would be easy to spot oil on but still look good?

I think the RS-RA engines came with gold valve covers. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, unfortunately I pretty much hate the color gold. I don't like gold jewelry, I think it's hideous. I can't stand chrome either.

So no chrome and no gold.

Maybe a shade of bronze. hmm I dunno.

could use red. throwback to a newer STi, and you can still spot the oil. ;)

I thought about that. Maybe. I just wanted something more unique than the STI red. Maybe more subtle too.

Haha oooooooooooook now I can see it. Looks good! I think it'll be another nice little mod to throw on the car. I love the little things like that, where you can't really tell EXACTLY what was done, but the car just looks super sexy i.e. this or the blacked out trunk garnish.

And yes, I noted how clean the inside was hahaha.

Looks good but looks like it might be a bitch to notice oil leaking on that cover. I guess you might see it on the heads though.

good thing is that dust/dirt will attach to the oil making it easier to see. :P

Oil's easy to spot on the crackle finish—it's shiny and, well, oily looking even before it attracts filth. You can see this at classic sports car shows where the cars aren't all trailer queens.

Did you try taking it with the flash off? Almost looks like there's too much flash. Or maybe from an angle would be better. Those pictures look a lot better than the first one though.
