Anybody know the factory spec for coolant capacity on the turbo legacy?? I had both the upper and lower hoses blow today and I need to flush the system due to the pieces of hose floating around. I need to know the capacity so I can con a ride to the parts store from a friend and only want to make one trip!

Sweet thanks! Off to the store then. I also get to clean my IAC at the same time!

If you have a turbo, bleeding air out of the system is tricky, and may take a couple tries. No bleeder screw makes it tough for a one shot, air bubble free system.
Otherwise, the N/A have a bleeder screw, and it's simple to get the air out of that system.

I never knew it had a bleeder screw. Where's that at?

With turbo models, you can also drill a small hole in the thermostat towards the center but not in it and leave the cap off at idle for ten minutes. All the air will rise to the top as any other vehicle would.

It's located on the top passenger side of the radiator.

Turbo models have a line that runs from the exact spot where the bleeder screw is located on the non-turbo radiators. This line dumps into the coolant expansion tank and serves the same purpose.
Also, the subaru thermostat has a jiggle valve in it, and allows air bubbles to pass by the thermostat.

Thanks for all the input , although there will be no re-filling for a while. I replaced upper and lower hoses but while flushing saw small seepage through the hose going to the turbo. SO...once again if I can find a ride (or convince my fiancee to go for me) I will have to get a new one. Lucky for me that this is one of the last coolant related items to replace. In the past three months I have replaced all but the one hose, therm, and the coolant res, and overflow! This should keep her running cool for a while to come.
