Help with speaker wiring

I'm trying to install new speakers in the rear deck but I can't figure out the polarity of the speaker wires.

The right rear speaker wires are:
Red/black stripe
White/Brown stripe

The left Rear are:
Red/white stripe
Blue/Yellow stripe

I've found lots of "speaker wire codes" for 1994 Subarau legacy but none match. I think all of the coding is meant for the wires at the back of the stereo. Apparently the wire colors at the speaker locations are different from the color of the wires at the stereo?

If anyone has experience with this please help.

Cut the plug off that was attacting the wires to the stock speakers. strip a little back and use a 9 volt batery to pop the speaker momentarily. If it pops out then you have the battery on the correct way. Which ever wire color is on the posotive side of the battery is the posotive wire for the speakers.

Cool does that work on subs?
Also does it even matter if you switch polarity? Both ways plays music.

Polarity affects bass response. Also if you just randomly wire speakers together, you can make them out of phase, which does horrible things to the sound when they play together.

I found the old plugs that I had stupidly cut off without marking the polarity down so that saved me the trouble of stripping and possibly accidentally cutting and shortening the already short speaker wires in the trunk.

For future reference:

Rear Left:
Red/Black: Negative
White/Brown: Positive

Rear Right:
Red/white: Negative
Blue/Yellow: Positive
