Hey guys, I have a friend of a friend who just graduated from UTI for paint & body work. He said he would flat black my car for $50, including prep and all that. Sounds like a hell of a deal to me. Does anyone happen to have any pics of a flat black legacy or know anyone who has 1? I would really like to see it on a car before I do it. He doesnt have a booth or a gun (so I dont really have an option on colors) but if he knows what he is doing then I would imagine flat black is.... well flat black....

any input/suggestions?

Like I said, you'll want to go satin black, here's a member who did it on his wagon. Somewhere around here, there's a sedan that has it done as well...

sorry, didnt mean to disreguard your input. I dont think he wants to do satin black because he doesnt have a gun or paint booth so I think he just wants to do flat black... I can't see there being much of a difference, but he didn't seem to fond of doing anything but flat black

Flat black dries nearly in seconds. You could probably train a yard squirrel to do a decent job with it. I did a hood and trunk on my GL sedan with a couple rattle cans of flat black epoxy paint (stuff is tough—never got a rock chip with it) in the driveway and it looked OK as long as I kept up with the paint protectant to keep it turning gray and shitty. And every damn bird that shits on it leaves an impression that bakes on even in colder weather in the sun and takes a couple minutes to clean up and blend back with the protectant. A whole car would be a nightmare. Whatever your car looks like now is probably better than flat black would look after a couple weeks (or arguably at all). IMO, it's throwing $50 away when you could drive it for free or spend a couple hundred and have Maaco or someone do an acceptable 20/20 on it in the original black.

^ Good point! My dad took his Chevelle to Maaco about a year ago. They have some 'hot rod' package (you can get it on any car) and it's basically a bunch of sanding and then spraying the car with to coats of a satin black paint. It actually came out looking pretty decent and it has a 2 year warranty on it as well. Cost him $300.

Save your $50 and use it for gas to get to work so you can save up $300 for a quality (<---take that lightly) paint job. Haha.

first of all macco sucks , they use like one roll of masking tape on the whole car . when i took my accord in there back in the day i ended up with overspray on my windows and on my wheels not to mention the trim and the color matching was done worse than i could have done while using black paint to color match a white car

hmmm i all ways wanted a flat black car, but i just could not do it. i siad to my self its going to be so heat & i droped that idea.

You can't clean flat paint very well at all (even picking eggshell for my kitchen walls was a dumb idea). My flat black hood had to be kept up with and protected every week, bird shit cleaned up ASAP or it would leave a stain. So I can only imagine what white would look like.

^^ LOL @ kitchen to funny. but imagine salt and snow areas, good thing i didnt do it.

The top of my hood didn't get the heavy blasts of salt, but I still needed to wash it every week and use the paint protectant when I got a chance.

Not to me. Like flames, it's kind of played out, IMO, anyway.

My car is Half flat black...I bought a rust free parts car and took every panel I could off it, and haven't gotten around to spraying the roof and quarters yet...I'll try to get a pic tomorrow, I only have one of it with the black front clip before I did the door swap...

You can't polish or wax flat black cars, scratches are permanent. And most importantly flat black will look like primer, which means it will look like crap. Satin or matte black is what you want, still no polishing or waxing but it will look like a paint job, not like a project. If he can't do satin or matte then don't bother, and even if he can, probably don't bother

flat black rules. if u get a scratch, bird shit or whatever. go to the car wash, dry the car and repaint where needed. ah, good as new.

This made me I always read it like the person is yelling, then the apology
