The large shipping companies do not actually ship cars. They are simply brokers that line you up with a small company that actually owns the truck and moves the car. They get $150-200 on top of what it actaully cost to move a car.

did you try www.u-ship.com?

it is like ebay for truckers. you put up a shipment for bid and truckers or maybe companies too, bid on it. i think i got a quote of $630 to move my TW from cali to seattle but the timing was off so i had to go get it myself.

What a crappy situation! At least the seller was willing to work with you while you got screwed over by a lame shipping company.

It looks like a lot of the car transport places are scams. I had a similar bad experience when I wanted to ship a car. I found a website called www.haulingdepot.com. They promised a quote to ship. I filled out the city the car came from and was going to, make, model, year, my email and my phone number. I requested that they contact me by email only (duh).

And then the madness began. I got 6 phone calls, and about 20 emails for quotes in one day. One quote was sent to me, and then a "follow up" email was sent an hour later.

They were a little intense. I was expecting a similar experience to what I had with freightquote.com. Freightquote was awesome when they helped me ship a tranny across the US. One call from an agent, who then arranged a freight company to take care of my shipping. Only one middle man, not 100 company's calling me and wasting my phone minutes.

This was back in January, and I STILL get emails about transporting my car.
