You can get 2.35L with the right crank and stock bore. You can't bore these things very far with the aluminum block and cast iron liners. Going .040" over wil net you about 24cc of displacement.

If you want that much more displacement, have it sleeved. But that opens up a different kettle of fish, and a $5k shortblock.

Yeah, use boost for power not C.I. on these motors.Subaru went to a 2.5 and in the opinion of many that motor is the biggest mistake they ever made.I have personally seen a pile of 2.5s at a machine shop that i could not see over the top of.Most likely all head gasket issues.Plus just boring out that big and not using stroke as well makes for big heavy pistons.

He did say SLEEVE in his sentence.

Done alot with the 2.2 motors.

Mick the Ginge on NASIOC has one, search his name.

Doug, it's been a long day, and I can't find Mick the Ginge on NASIOC. I'm real interested to see what he has done. Are you sure that is the guys name?

Thanks,

I have a block I plan on sleeving eventually. The block I ripped the head studs out of, actually.

So, here's a breakdown of it:

Sleeving $1500
STi crank $300
Pauter rods $800
CP pistons $900
Oversized headstuds $500
Other machine work $500
Bearings $160

Sub-total= $4660, without paying for a block.

Ouch. That's a lot of coin for a big subaru motor, even if it's bomb proof.

A friend of mine, Adrenalinrush, has that setup and spooled a 40R to 20psi at about 3700 rpm with the turbo in the foglight pocket (fobiawrx's first manifold).

Also, keep in mind that if the machine shop doesn't have a lot of experience with sleeving motors, the sleeves can move around. The local motor builder won't tell me all the steps involved due to proprietary reasons, which I understand.
