What is this on the wheel?

I've seen these on other cars, and the owner is never around to ask...WTH are these? They're usually only on the front wheels.

I saw a set on craigslist last year for $100, but didn't end up getting them. My $15 set of used chains (also from craigslist) work fine

good question TOdd, I saw those on a car at work also and had NO idea wtf it was. There was only one on the drivers side front tire though, and that was it so I was so confused haha

thats a pretty good idea whoever invented that. would be great for elderly people and family people, but guys like us cant stay under 32 mph the whole winter!! haha

I love the video that has the camera tilted at 15 degrees with the car on level ground to simulate it going up hill lol
