91 ej22T swap into a 95 impreza coupe

I know that the 95 impreza is obd2, and it is also a 2.2 liter model...so...can I run the stock engine harness? Or should I do a full swap? I have heard with obd2 you can plug into the port and program the ecu for turbo? I have a full 91 Turbo SS that has no title and runs so f'n strong its amazing...so I can use all the wiring if necessary? Thanks guys :)

You would need to merge the two harnesses together for everything to work properly.

You could possibly use the entire harness from a 1993-1994 Impreza and make it work.

I guess I was wanting to keep the obd2 connector to read codes instead of the "flashing lights" codes of the earlier obd1. So whatever I need to do to keep the stock engine harness if possible.

You are not going to be able to use the 22T ECU and keep the car OBDII.

That basically leaves you with running some sort of piggy-back.

I understand that. I am trying to only use the 2.2T motor mixed with the newer obd2 and computer. Seeings how the impreza was a 2.2 model, the computer is the same displacement. My buddy just said something about swapping the obd2 cam sensors and pulleys to the turbo motor? anyone heard of this?

Since when are 1995 Imprezas OBDII?

I have a 95 Impreza Coupe with a 93 Legacy SS ej22t swap. They were both OBDI The wiring was very minimal. Mine started as an ej18, but I didn't think OBDII came until 96.

Is the 91 SS Smashed up? Why swap it if its running strong?

My impreza is rare, first year 2.2 liter, 5 speed, obd2 connector that I have already used with my tester! Production year 94, release date 95. 2 door sport with fin. :D now I just need to turbo it to make it actually cool....

The displacement of the engine the original computer does not get around the fact that a forced induction engine with different compression, different camshaft profiles, among other things, will need a completely different engine calibration than that currently in your OBDII ECU. If a piggyback works, great. You don't get something for nothing, though. There will always be trade-offs and shortcomings when modifying cars.

Maybe the question I should ask is...Am I wasting my time trying to be OBDII? Cuz obviously I can hook up the stock 91 harness and computer easy, I just wanted my check engine light to work on my dash , and the rest of the wiring to be as integral with the stock wiring as possible.

Trying to swap an old ej22t into an OBDII is not going to be a simple swap and not even worth it. There are tons of OBDII ej20/25 engines out there that aren't really going to cost more and are going to give better performance.

Is the Legacy smashed up? If not, sell the Impreza and just mod the Legacy.

If the Legacy is smashed up and you are dead set on swapping the ej22t into an old impreza, sell your impreza and buy an OBDI one.

Allright...Now you guys busted me again tying to make lemonade out of lemons. I can afford a 2.5 sti motor. What year STI motor should I search 4? I just love my 2.2 turbos. I got 3 and one with no title.....so I was gonna finally scrap it....

I am currently doing the same swap. I bought a full ej22t drive terrain for $1200. I am running with a td04 turbo and 2007 wrx intercooler. I took the wiring harness off of the ej22 n/a motor and put it on. Your car will turn on and run but you can not go past 3500 rpm because of the timing chis ange needed to handle the boost. I am running a Aem fic piggyback ($315 on ebay) and it will fix all of your problems. This swap is more worth the trouble. I chose this swap because it is a closed deck, and yeah the heads arent as good as the ej20, but the ej20 has rod bearing problems, so the ej22t is a way better pick.
