Help! cant separate N/A trans from motor.

I'm in the middle of my auto to manual swap and ran into a few issues. I bolted up the new trans (push style) and realized I couldn't turn the motor over anymore with my 22mm from the crank. I can hear a metal clunk as if the clutch is binding up on a bolt or something, that's the reason I need to take the trans back out! :x so I spent about 3 hours trying to get the trans off but now I can't! Wtf happened? I separated it from the motor, and there is about a 1.5" gap between the two but I still can't separate. Am I missing something?

The other issue is my motor only has 1 starter bolt hole and the new trans has two bolt holes, not 1 hole and 1 stud.

Did you remove the pin that goes through the clutch fork? Gotta remove that to get the clutch fork loose or the engine and trans will NOT come apart. I man-handled my engine and trans for an hour trying to get the damn thing apart. I was sweating and exhausted by the time I gave up and it turned out to be the stupid clutch fork pin.

For the starter get a tap set from someone and tap the lower starter hole on the transmission then get a bolt with that thread maybe inch and a half or two inches long.

If this tranny uses a pull type clutch, take the starter off and locate the large allen head screw/plug hiding in the starter area. Remove that guy and thread a 6mm (if I remember right) bolt into the end of the clutch fork pivot pin and wiggle it completely out. I wrestled with mine all evening and the interweb rescued me.

Yeah not that kind of trans. Just a little push style n/a trans. I will give it another go on monday. I just don't wanna hurt my expensive clutch. Like bend one of the "spring finger tab thingies". Thanks so far.

Did you try putting a jack under the transmission to make sure the engine and transmission are aligned? I think there may be another trick I used, too, but I can't remember that long ago.

yeah the shift linkage is off the trans, that's another problem in itself. (got an sti one but its too short)

And yeah i put a jack on the front of the motor to tilt it, and i also have a tranny jack i'm using. Next step is gonna be the crowbar.

Sometimes the alignment dowel pins get corroded and cause it to hang up. Use a penetrant on those. The engine and trans need to remain aligned during removal or it will be a pain, also use a large screw driver or a medium sized pry bar to seperate block from bellhousing.
