Been updated on this recently. Called the uk two weeks ago and asked for a price on the ee20. They returned an email stating that their engines are not for sale and are being reserved for warranty purposes.
And according to the local Subaru dealership they won't import their diesel for another two years or more.

I think they did the same thing with the EZ30 when that was new. I have no idea if you could run it on a regular standalone, so you'd probably need the ECU and harness as well. I'd love to get a hold of one or a pair of them. I have a feeling they might be tough to get even when they are available from wrecks, especially if fuel prices go up. Being the only boxer diesel engine out there won't help.

about a year ago, i asked subaru why the diesel forestor is not available stateside. they said the emissions will not currently pass epa standards, but subaru CEO has made it a priority and we should expect to see these stateside in the next few years. not sure if that's still the plan with energy in the toilet, but it sounded good at the time...

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but vw seems to be the only other maker stateside to have imported their diesel. It's not a huge market even for them so I can understand how they don't see it as a huge priority. (even though a CEO may have stated it is a priority) if it were such a huge priority it would have been here within a year of Europe.

I think Subaru us trying to engineer it to pass emissions without the urea equipment. I may be wrong, but I think VW has done this, but isn't CA compliant. Diesel fuel in the US is more than gas, which isn't the case in Europe and fuel prices in general are incredibly high, so this, um, fuels, demand for diesels. The other problem, like with a lot of things, is that Americans are incredibly stupid with an incredible mix of short-sightedness and long-term memory, and the latter only when it serves to worst effect. People still perceive diesels to be like the problem engines rushed to market during the second gas crisis 30 years ago. It's the same thing with station wagons—these friggin' morons preferring the worse packaging, dynamics, efficiency, and (at least, I'd say) aesthetics of crossovers in exchange for some misguided sense of power from a supposedly more macho image of the jacked up retard-mobile. Funny how a country so "free" is so full of people who feel powerless. Maybe they should think for themselves instead of doing what they're told. Slavery can be subtle and self-imposed.
