Hey everyone. I want to some maintenance on my car before i go on a road trip. i got a 94 legacy wagon (turbo awd model).
I want to buy a timing belt kit for my car. I am hoping to get the belt, water pump, all the gaskets, pulleys, bolts, etc whatever is needed for the job.
I was wondering if anyone can suggest a place or site to purchase this. I looked at some websites and the kits cost varies from $125- $300+. The big gap between prices makes me wonder about the quality of the products. Also a lot of the descriptions talk about getting a different retaining bolt which confuses me if the kit comes with the new bolt or do i have to find a bolt that fits it?
Is there a specific brand to stay away from? I just don't want to get the cheapest kit and it turns out to be a crappy product. Would it be wise just to go to the dealership to buy these parts? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks good, as compared with what I used when I did the front end of my '91 engine.

Is the price of a kit, if is what this is, less than if you purchased each piece separately?

I would also get the o-ring that are behind the oil pump and replace them. 806919050

I recommend the Import Experts on ebay...they probably won't have everything in one kit, but most of it.

I had and issue w/a bolt from a kit I bought someplace else...I was lucky and had one that fit....so you might want to check w/the Seller on that b4hand.

As mentioned, get the O-ring for the oil pump AND tighten the screws on the back of it..they can work loose over time.

You may want to get some extra water pump bolts too. One of mine was slightly corroded, and despite my best efforts it broke on removal. They seem to be very weak.
It's also the perfect time to replace the front cam seals and front crank seal.

I have to counter the subarugenuineparts love fest here. I ordered all the timing belt stuff from them (well over $500 with all the pulleys), and they fucked up my order. They gave me the wrong length (not usable) bolts for the pulleys, after "correcting" the bolt part numbers I ordered! Luckily I could go there in person and (and contain my anger ) exchange the bolts for the ones I ordered originally. They also did not include the rear cam seal I ordered; it is only accessible after taking out the camshaft so it was the only time to do it. When I am inconvenienced by a business I payed large sums of money to, it tends to piss me off. Especially when I can use an old parts book I found on the internet better than they can use the latest official one.

Sorry about the rant in your thread, but watch out when placing large orders with them.

The list that i put down was compiled by someone from subaruparts.com. It's not actually a kit.He just listed all the parts needed to do the job. Its pricey.. $570.84 (all the items) + $68.50 (shipping to 60659) = $639.34. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get parts? I'm starting to think I'm better off taking the list to the dealership and getting it through them..

And I was wondering about the oil pump and crank seal... Would it be wise to just buy another oil pump and replace all the seals/gaskets since i'll already have everything taken off? Then i'll have the state of mind that the oil pump should be good for another 80k miles?

Also i just looked on ebay and partsbin.com just to see differences in price..

Is ac delco a crappy brand? why is gates so expensive when it comes with the exact same parts as the ac delco? Should i be afraid of the ebay one since its cheaper than both the ac delco and gates..but comes with a water pump? sorry i'm a little paranoid when i'm not buying oem subaru parts. lol.

DId you find anything out? Getting ready to do a timing belt kit myself and I need to know EVERYTHING i need to get it done. This is my first time as well but have knowledgeable friends helping me out

basically the list above is pretty complete, if you want to do the oil pump and o ring kleinkid mentioned you can. I spent alot of money at the dealership for the parts. I ended up having to sell the parts cause i need the money to pay for some hospital bills. The dealership wouldnt let me return half the parts cause they were "special order." If you arent to anal about your car, and do the cheaper route. If you want to stick with oem you are looking to spend about $800 for everything... then again my sales tax in chicago is about 10%...

im gonna have to pass on the dealership route... What other kit would you guys recommend?

try gates? or go on ebay. they might not be complete kits, but a majority of it should be included. if you feel like replacing more, just buy whatever parts werent included.
