Knock sensor.

I've had the cel on for the knock sensor for about two and a half weeks now and I'm not sure if the sensor is bad, the wiring broke, or I have knock and its working right. Would random losses of power when accelerating be related to it at all and is there anyway I can figure out what set the light off without too much head scratching? I know the lifters tick but I haven't heard any other noises other than the lifters seem louder than normal and the ticking doesn't fad out right after start up like it used to. Thanks in advance for helping.

Yes, knock sensor CEL can make the ECU go into 'limp mode' which retards timing, increases fuel, etc. Only one way to find this out and thats through data logging (EvoScan or RevScan) tools.
Easiest things to check are the knock sensor itself and then the wires back to the ECU. The '92 FSM posted in the stuff you need to know forum contains all the details on this procedure (hint, look up the knock sensor CEL diagnostics).

Is this the knock sensor?

If it is, I took it out today and wiped it off but the cel didn't go away...

No, that appears to be the oil pressure sensor.
The knock sensor is located to the right of the throttle body and under. The FSM contains better diagrams -- its posted in the stuff you need to know forum.

there is a common issue with the wiring on those knock sensors. the vinyl covering on the wiring pulls back or cracks exposing the shielding to touch ground or touch the inner wire.

I found the sensor yesterday and the main body is cracked in a few places so I'm guessing that would be the cause, the wiring looked fine. This is the knock sensor, correct? It was on the drivers side of the block near the throttle body, like BSOD2600 said.

Yup that's it. Replace it and you should be good to go.

Yeah, that's it. Not supposed to be mounted up there by your strut top mount though, IMO.

Yeah, I put it there to take a picture of it. I put it back in the proper location after I took the picture.
