I didn't like the mix one bit. My front diff whined quite loudly with the cocktail mix in it while ice racing. I only run plain old 75w90 or subaru extra S in my gearboxes now.

I would stay away from the cocktail. Subaru Extra S is the proper oil for these finicky transmissions.

If I had a 6mt, I'd run the extra S, everything else gets 80w90, of the dead dinosaur variety, usually pennzoil or valveline.

I'd also avoid the cocktail. Reports have surfaced about damage this mix does to Subaru transmissions.

not to steal the post, but does the Subaru Extra-S Work for our tranny and rear diff?
How much will I need total? (for both if applicable)
Do you guys recommend any additives, or just the Extra-S?

Ya that cocktail mix is crap I ran the same in my car and it was whiny as well!! I assumed it was prob just the transmission bearings, but probably would have been much quieter if I tried just straight gear oil.

Just extra S and like 4.2qts for the tranny I think. I wouldn't use it in the rear diff.

75w90 or 80w90, no additives unless you have an old clutch type LSD then I'd go redline 75w90 NS. R160 rear diff takes a quart.

If it is a viscous LSD unit just use 75w90.

The extra-s is fine for the rear diff. It is much less finicky than the transmission, so any GL5 rated gear oil should be fine.

sounds good, I'll get some ordered ASAP. Anyone know the fluid capacities off the top of their head for the 5MT tranny and 3.9 VLSD diff?

You'll need 5 qts. The trans takes just under 4 qts, and the rear diff takes just under 1 qt.
