My friend is looking for a rear strut bar for her 92 legacy LS. It has 90-91 top hats. I know on my BD I can use the 02-07 WRX Rear Strut bar.

I used a 93-01 impreza strut bar.

For the rear? or the front? Because I believe the 93-01 works in the front?

It works in the rear, too. I have one in my wagon.

so i know its been a while since anyone post in this thread but im looking on ebay for impreza strut bar's and they range from 15$ to like 100$ just wondering if the cheaper ones would be the same quality?
just remembered would the strut bar be the same hole hole pattern as a 02 wrx (the hole you bolt to the body from the top hat).

90-94 legacy has the same pattern as a 93-01 impreza
02 is a different pattern. 02-07 Imprezas are the same pattern.
Front bars are the same for wagon or sedan.
I don't think you can use a rear wagon bar on a sedan, but you can use a rear sedan bar on a wagon.
AND you get what you pay for.
I have a few extra front and rear bars for BC/GC and GD and you can tell the difference in the metals and the welding.
But if it is a project car, then sometimes you go cheap.

My front bar is a cheap one—it's welded steel, so it's not bad for the price, but isn't fancy and isn't light. My rear bar is a Cusco copy and is much nicer.

just wondering will the length of the wrx rear bar fit or is it longer or shorter? if anyone knows?

The WRX one fits in the front because the cheapo I have is a fixed width for a WRX and fits fine . . . actually, it might have been for a GC chassis . . . I can't remember now, but it was definitely for an Impreza. Just as an extra FYI, it also has the firewall support attachments, but those are short by about 3/8 or so, IIRC. My rear bar is adjustable in width and I actually used mine to preload the towers a little. Killed off a couple creaks with that. I'd recommend an adjustable if you have the choice.

I think GD Impreza front strut tops are mounted at a different angle from ours; you need one meant for a GC/GF.

You do realize that the strut tops for an 02-07 WRX are different from yours right?
Meaning if they are part of the coilover asssembly(like most are), you will have to re-drill the holes in the top strut mounts.
(read up on this in the suspension forum)

Will a WRX rear strut brace fit a 1st gen legacy? Just wondering because they're much easier to find than a GC brace.

I'm not sure if the orientation of the bolts are the same as our cars. That would be the big reason they wouldnt' fit. Also, you would need a wagon bar, not a sedan bar.

Why is that?

Are you referring to the wagon vs. sedan? Well I know the front track is wider on the WRX....I'm not sure if the spacing at the strut towers is also different...it may not be. Either way....now that I think about it, I don't think the rear track is any wider....so the rear bar should be the same between sedan & wagon.

Yeah that's what I was wanting to know. I saw a nice cusco one for sale on NASIOC with the lower mount. Was thinking about getting it but I don't know if it will fit. I bought a carbon GC JDM STI front bar which I'm excited about except I really want an adjustable one so I can preload it and the carbon bar is not adjustable so I may end up buying another and selling the carbon bar on here or NASIOC.
