I had to replace the power steering pump. The parts store also sold me two quarts of power stirring fluid. Now I have seen that I need ATF, the power steering fluid is already in the pump. Will it be OK to use the power steering fluid?

It's risky, use dexron 3 in pre 2005 subaru 4eat auto transmissions. 2006 + uses atf-hp.

While generaly the same, the power steering fluid dosent share the cooling propties as the dex3, and heat kills auto trannys. The opposite would be less risky, atf in the power steering pump.

I,ve used both in my cars one has had royal purple power steering fluid in it for over 300,000 miles with no issues. But I just changed the rack because it was feeling like it was about wore out but no leaks. Sti rack is tight and very responsive and also put royal purple PS fluid in maybe I should change it.

I ran power steering fluid in an old pump and I think it may have been the reason it croked. Try sucking out as much of the p-steering fluid as possible and put in some dextron III atf.

Yeah it should be ok. Just suck out as much as you can when you refill with dextron 3. Then maybe in a little bit, suck out the fluid again and refill with dextron 3.
