Intercooler warning light

Hi,

I'm now to the group and in act Legacy's just got a 1990 RS a few
weeks ago, love it!

Anyway I noticed the electronic wire connection on top of the
intercooler was unplugged so plugged it in and now the warning light
is displayed on the dash. The intercooler has plenty of fluid in it,
it is actually a dark green colour (antifreeze I assume, but looks
like a very rich mix) so what does this light warn against? Is it
just water level if so it must be faulty, any suggestions?

Also looing to start modifying my baby, its factory standard now,
over the weekend, I took the airbox out and removed the intake
silencer box from inside the front guard and just ran stright pipe
through there, will get a performace filter soon, what else can I
look to do myself? Also any suggestion on anywere to source cheap
performance parts?

Thanks for your time.

Quin

That's the transthermalinducergyroscopicmagnaraybooster! Pull it out quick,
or your car will turn into a Hundai!!!!!!!!!!

:o)

All in fun, no really, what are your intentions? Fast road performer? Track?
Rally? It really all depends on what you want to achieve. If you want a
"grocery getter" that turns some heads on the way then you prolly won't
spend anytime or $ on things that don't make it look pretty (i.e. shielding
for differentials, or Hella lamps - both are used more for folks interested
in Rallying) or go fast.

Whereas, if you intend to do some laps on a track during the weekends, you
might want to go a more traditional route and start at the wheel. Although
it won't make your car *go* any faster, better tires and rims will reduce
your stopping times and improve your grip in the corners.

Welcome!

Best,

-Sambo

So what do you want to do?

A good start would be to bore out the throttle body, and get a new
butterfly. Made a huge difference to my car.

Give me some idea and I can tell you what to do and how to do it.

Daniel-Would boring out the 60mm throttle body help an NA motor also? Had`nt ever thought of doing that; any info, pictures, etc. would help as I`m planning a cam change, too. Can`t afford to do heads now, so this mod, cams & throttle body might help. P. S.-are you running the stock injector size? Is yours 380cc? Let me know-thanks-the other ROD (AZ.)

Intercooler warning light

Sorry Rod, where do you live? My car is N/A at the moment, yes it
made a huge difference. My throttle body is now 62mm or 64mm (can't
remember which) the biggest increase is in the middle almost totally
flat from the opening to the exit. You can't really tell by a photo.
You are limited in size by one of the water galleries, my throttle
body is 3/4 mm from the gallery.

I am running Stock injectors, just increased the fuel pressure. How
ever I have a WRX inlet manifold and injectors about to go on the
car, I have had them on once but didn't have enough hose to complete
so had to take them off again. The new injectors are 440cc and I am
going to need a new fuel pump. A Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo fule pump
will fit in the tank and replace the existing, hard to find though.
This is going to cost me about $600.00 for a bosch out of tank fuel
pump.

Alocohol and water injection would made a huge difference to a N/A
engine also, you would have to set that up to work off a switch on
the throttle.

The motor has had 15,000 dollars spent on it so far that was a full
re-build and balanced and blue printed bottom end. It will keep up
with most RS or WRX's.

I made up some stainless steel extractors and 3 inch mandrel bent
exhaust, had to put 3 mufflers to get enough back pressure two 18inch
hotdog Cobi's and a stainless borla muffler at the end, when the cat
gets the turbo both cobi's go.

I have a td05 turbo being built for it at the moment.

you running the stock injector size? Is yours 380cc? Let me know-

My mate did it for me, he is the best in NZ for doing these does most
of the rally cars here. Just bored it out on a lathe, the hardest
part is making up the new butterfly so it seals cleanly on the
aluminium. Didn't cost me anything as I had done some work for him. I
wouldn't imagine that it would cost much to get a perfomance shop to
do it.

Another good cheap performance option would be to install alcohol and
water injection, for Turbo or N/A.

Just checked the throttle body and it is now 64mm in size, I will
flow it and give you an indication what difference it has made from
standard.
