I was reading about the history and specs of the ej series motors and I came a cross something I had not heard about. I read the statement that the intake valve size was reduced to 27 mm in the turbo motor and I was wondering if anyone has confirmed this and also why would they do such a thing. I don't see the benefit of it.

Supposedly a na Dohc head will flow much better than the turbo head. I intend on swapping over to it. How's the sohc compare to the Dohc heads?

I am just talking about the 2.2t versus the 2.2 na. Both are sohc.

The turbo engine likely has smaller valves to aid low-end torque and maximize off-boost response.

I've read the same thing, but have not confirmed it. What I can tell you is that Subaru lists different intake & exhaust valve part #'s for the turbo & non-turbo ej22's.

If someone has some n/a heads to measure, I'll measure some scrap 22t ones.

That won't be a good comparison.
We would need some Phase1 SOHC EJ22 heads to compare.
