Axle compatibility Q's

Hi everyone!

I have yet another simple question about front axles and which axles can be used during my 5MT swap.

I forgot to get some axles for my 5mt swap... So now im looking like a DOG!!!!

My swapped trans is a 98 legacy GT trans

So i have found many many leads to axle but i just want to know what i can use where?

I have found the following:

03 Baja
04 WRX
95 Impreza 2wd
96 Leggy/Outback

I know they have to be the axles the slip onto the trans stub axles!! And for a MT NOT a AT!!!

I actually think that ALL of the axles that i mentioned will work. I just want some assurance.

Also dumb question again......

I have a 04 RS impreza rear diff and a 96 outback drive shaft that is a 2 part one.

I think i can make something up with my 96 D shaft and my 93 D shaft?

Im sorry i ask these questions... They are really NOT that hard. I know subi's are lego!
I dont get to work on older subi's I get to work on mainly 2000 and up cars....

Thanks

Tom

The axles are NOT MT & AT specific, nor are they AWD or FWD specific.

The 95 Impreza & 96 Legacy axles should be fine. I would guess the baja & WRX axles would work, but I can't say for sure. The older stuff would be better IMO.

As far as the drive line, if it's going into a first gen legacy, you need to use the rear section of the 93 drive line (it's the same length between AT & MT cars. The front section needs to come from a MT equipped car and if the 96 is outback is MT, then that should work.

Soo this is what i gather from this now.

I can use my existing front axle AT axle's on my 98 legacy GT 5MT trans???

I swear the AT has a fatter front diff than a MT?

I know that they "physically" slip in and fit the EXACT same BUT they should be longer and short right??

Am i missing something???

Also thanks for the D shaft info! Im safe there now!

The axles are the same length. I am using the same FWD AT axles that were originally on my car. They worked fine on the 5spd and are now working fine on the 6spd.
