so I bought a built transmission and im in need of a 4.44 rear diff to make it work. any one know what diffs with 4.44 will bolt onto my 91ss? thinking a 2007 forster xt rear diff but are there other options.
does it matter if the rear diff is off a auto or manual.

The diff can be off an auto or manual. However, in the states I think the only 5mt equipped car with 4.44s was the FXT. Luckily, Subaru (usually) paired autos and the non turbo ej25s with 4.44 final drive. You'll need to grab rear axles from a 2nd gen legacy to fit the new diff.

Is there a way to tell if the diff is 4.44. Like a part number on the diff

The wrx axles should work. And no, the newer diffs dont normally have sticker with the final drives.

Here are a few examples of cars with 4.44s (all auto tranny and have 2.5 engines):

96-99 Legacy outback and GT
98-01 2.5 rs
Most automatic 00-04 outbacks
Most non turbo foresters
And so on. The junkyards should be able to provide you with the vehicle vin, and you can run that by your local dealer to find out the final drive.
I scored an 02 Outback (cold weather package) VLSD diff that way.

The diff may not have a sticker on the rear cover, but it should have a stamp or label identifying what it is.

That low mileage, you should be fine and it looks like it doesn't leak. The bearings generally last around (my experience) is 500k-700k. I never had a gear break in the rear diff.
