Just picked up a '92 SS and the automatic seat belts HAVE to go. ASAP!!
I just feel like they are barely holding me in and they don't feel safe.


Has anyone fitted a manual seatbelt like these?

Or a racing style belt like these? I don't have people riding in the back seat much so the mounting point would not get in the way.

I've never felt that the auto seat belts did not hold me in-love them-never have to think about putting them on-like my '99

You sir have a lot of reading ahead of you haha. Our car in america got screwed with the good stuff. I for one love the auto seat belt. However our friends up north, to the west and east all got manual seat belts and they put up from time to time for sale. For a stock fitment there is more to it than just replacing the belts.

You still need to put the lap belt on unless you want to be clotheslined and smashed up under the dash.

Thanks Bud! I have done a lot of reading already and I figure finding the Canadian seat belts and trim is gonna take some time. I drive a fairly moderate speed (35-55mph) two lane twisty canyon road on my daily commute and want to feel safer than I do with the auto belts. This will be an interim solution until I have the opportunity to jump on the Canadian belts. I have seen the later Legacy retrofit and it seems like too much work. Thinking of picking up a Schroth Rallye 4 harness brand new from a local Impreza guy for 1/2 the price of new. I think that will work for me for now.

I love the auto belts cause I'm that guy who always forgets to put on my seat belt lol.

i ordered a 4 point harness til i can get my auto belt fixed lol

In order to use the console for my swap, I have to switch to manual belts. So if anyone needs any good seatbelts, they're black/dark grey.

I picked up a brand new Schroth Rallye 4 harness from a local guy for $85, thats like 1/2 price. DOT compliant. It should arrive tomorrow and I will take picks of the install. And I can use it in my 2012 Legacy GT on track days FTW!

What anchor points will you be using for the harness? I know some people use the 3 seatbelt points, but what about the 4th?

80 for everything seem fair? front belts, tracks, and seatbelt computer.

oh shoot. i guess it's mostly the lap belts that are falling apart. I didn't think about it having to be separated. Sorry for the hassle CJ.

The two rear drivers side lap belt points, those are the ones that Schroth recommends with the 4 point harness.

CJ, the more i think about it, the more gray lap belts and blue shoulder belts would look retarded. I probably should get a complete set of belts. I don't want you to have to piece yours out honestly. I'll just keep an eye out.

This is what I installed. They were just installed over the stock belts for now until I have the time to disassemble the old auto belts and modify the wiring to get rid of the seatbelt idiot light on the dash. And to make sure I liked them.

The verdict is that they are GREAT!!! But they are a little more involved to get belted up every time I get in the car....but it's okay.....becuz racecar!!!

So did some searching on this, and I am in the same boat as OP, so instead of making new post figure I'd bump this up.

Neither of my front "auto" belts seem to securely fasten. As in if you try to yank one real quick, shoulder or lap belt, it doesn't lock just stays loose the whole time. Is this really normal or are they broken?? Kind of concerned since it doesn't feel very safe driving around with non-functioning seat belts..

I seem to remember this as well. But i believe the answer i was given was that it also has to do with the brake being applied or something like that.

Really? So they may actually still be functional? That would certainly give me some peace of mind. About to do reg/ins and would like to start driving this week

Eh, they're probably fine, but i did kinda play around with mine today. Brake didn't seem to matter. But i was under the impression that it took more than just yanking on the belt to get it to lock up.

In retrospect, the brake shouldn't matter. If it did, and you got hit without warning or ever pressing on the brake, it wouldn't be so great...
