Link vs Unichip in Third World USA

I acknowledge that the PossumLink is the hot setup for the EJ20 in Oz, but it is not directly applicable to an EJ22T and its peculiar ECU that we have here in the land of the overly regulated. My many attempts to track down a Link ECU all lead to a sole US distributor who has the price fixed at $1300 US + $300 for the required programming module. I don't know of anyone in the US who dyno tunes the Link. A Link is an obvious choice in UK OZ NZ, but it aint worth a bucket of spit to us poor bastards with the radically detuned USA faux turbo cars.
A Dastek Unichip on the other hand costs a mere $500 and has a fairly extensive dealer network, although 4WD dynos are scarce as hen's teeth.
Another consideration for our third world country (besides the fact that we can't even provide dependable electricity to the west coast's biggest cities) is the fact that we have shit for fuel. The best readily available pump gas is 92 octane which is considerably lower than in Japan, Oz, UK or NZ. A good tuning job for the land of single cams, no intercoolers and low boost must account for the fact that we only get "grandma" fuel.
