That's a shame.

Those fuel risers are great. But do you really need one for your
application? Bosch do an in tank fuel pump that will fuel a 350Hp
EJ20 without a fuel riser, you could then use the extra money to buy
some seccond hand 550cc injectors, all for about the same price.

You would notice more performance gains with these options.

He assured me that if I bought his razoo in-tank fuel pump for $150 and added his magic 4/1 rising rate fuel regulator fir another $150 that I would see a remarkable increase in power and that my old "half throttle is s good as full throtttle" problem would be over. I decided to buy them both. I will install in the next couple of weeks and report to all of you.

Well Corky Bell, Hugh Macinnes and the Bosch Fuel Injection Manual are
unanimous with a yes vote on both the pump and regulator especially to
compensate for other engine mods. I know that when I was working on
these ECUs that shifting at 8000 rpm added almost 3 seconds to my 1/4
mile times. I thought valve float but have changed my mind.

The file I just uploaded shows the fuel problem pretty well things
seem to fall off after about 5200-5300 rpm and it just gets worse even
when you let it breath a little better this was a tip off. This was
done on a 1.8l engine and FWD as there was no AWD dyno available. The
pump works although we did not dyno it as we went home and wondered a
bit before coming to this conclusion and someones wife wanted her car
back. My opinion on the regulator is that one thing it helps correct
for is high boost pressure against the injectors. One of these charts
I have shows a JC Sports Torque chip and it flattens the curve out and
gives about 10-12hp at 3800-4000 rpm also on a 1.8l. I will try and
upload more later but these charts are in pretty bad shape.

Hey Bill, I will be interested to see what you find. I would like to suggest
a couple of things before you pull your fuel pump. I believe the stock pump
is not so wimpy. For comparison purposes, the carbureted engine pump
pressure should be 2.6 - 3.3 psi. The pump pressure used on the 1.8 L single
port fuel injected engines should be 36 - 50 psi. Pump pressure on the
multiport fuel injected engines used on the 2.2 L Legacy and 3.3 L SVX should
be 61 - 71 psi. That just does not seem wimpy to me.


I predict your problem is a pressure leak downstream of your turbo like
maybe a loose hose or duct, but that's too easy and is my third choice.





My second choice is a bad throttle position sensor. Chiltons Repair
Manual shows how to check the throttle position sensor with an ohmmeter to
look for
resistance range differences with the throttle fully open and fully
closed. Looks simple enough to be worth a try before changing anything.

For my first choice, we have maxed out

injectors. If it's your
injectors, the rising rate pressure

regulator should make a difference. I
predict the regulator
alone will do the trick for you. And if it does maybe you should send the
pump back and get one of those little injector duty

cycle / air-fuel ratio
meters for


about a hundred bucks.

The problem is volume not pressure. At high boost and rpm the engine
will eventually lean out and can be seen on a fuel pressure gauge. I
even had this problem with one of the Legacy N/A conversions that I
did with a RX. I ended up changing the tank to the turbo Loyale type
with a larger outlet and the turbo pump. The factory just will not
give us anything that they don't have to.
