Boost issues

My 89 stock legacy Rs boosts well from 1 to 4th gear but on 5th it lags a bit before picking up, this all started after replacing the plugs after Water got into one of them, where could this bug be

Can you provide some additional background on the car, what happened to cause the water getting into the plugs, and did you replace the plugs with exactly the same type of plug?
