Any reason you guys can think of why a 2.5 liter wont work just fine with the first gen 2.2 sensors including the 2.2 airbox and MAF sensor? What I am trying to do is keep the car OBD1 for simplicity sake. Re use all of the ej22 sensors and maf and let the ecu figure it out

I don't have any personal experiencing putting a 2.5 into a 1st gen legacy, but I did put an ej25d into my old 1996 legacy. I don't think it's so much a matter of "will it work" but rather how to make the 1st gen sensors and parts fit on a newer intake manifold and engine.
Which 2.5 are you talking about? What engine management will you use to get 200 hp?

The 2.5 came out of a 98 outback, and I am intending to use the stock ECU OBD1 electronics from the car the engine is going in. I am hoping I wont need anything else to make it work. Any thoughts?

You'll need to use your throttle body with it's throttle position sensor, idle air control, injectors, intake wiring harness, cam and crank sensors, crossover pipe and sensors from the ej22. The cam & crank, crossover pipe and it's sensors and wiring harness will be easy. Will the first 3 things physically fit on the ej25d?
