well i learned a little something this weekend that will basically benefit
the whole group, story is as follows:

Ian (fellow legacy member from Kent, Washington, USA) owns both a '91 turbo
sedan and a '93 turbo sedan. The '91 has GR-2 struts and the '93 has the
stock ones.

Saturday, my brother and I went over to Ians house to swap the struts for
him from the '91 to the '93 and vice-versa. Good news is that if you're
installing the whole assembly - top hat, strut, and spring - they will bolt
right in.

When people speak about the differences between the 90-91 assembly and the
92-94 assembly, from what i gather, they're speaking about the different
springs; and a different top hat must be used.

Benefits for the rest of us on what i learned: Anything that's sold for the
92-94 turbo will fit into the earlier legacy - barring you get the spring
and top hat as well. This opens up suspension opportunities vastly for those
of us that have 90s and 91s.

-Jason

91 to 93 strut swap

Good to hear it Jason, glad someone finally had a chance to look at
both of them and see what the difference was. It didn't make sense
to me that they would have made some kind of inherent incompatibility
of the system.

Perhaps the different top mount and springs means that replacement
springs would be impossible to use without getting newer top hats?
This probably wouldn't be too hard to do, as there are legions of
these available in every Legacy or Impreza from 92+.

Thanks!
