Morgie, I have more vids of you than anyone else . I always show them to people and say "That's my car, only it's someone else's ." in an effort to show off what she looks like to non-locals. I also like to say to myself "wow, my car can do that?!"

Damn! that was a trip . good sync with the music too! 2 questions:

1) what kind of tires you running?
2) what are you using to get sideways? ebrake, brakes, loud pedal?

you get your ass out so easily, and recover it with even less difficulty. I could really use a few pointers. I'm alright, but I need some technique help and I don't have enough time to practice . yesterday I was playing around and I was having way too much of a hard time keeping from plowing. last season I had Arctic Alpins, and this season I'm on Michelin M2s. the M2s are nicer in the dry, but I think the arctic alpins were a superior tire in the snow.

You don't really need the hand brake to get the tail out in loose situations. The brake pedal usually does the trick. You've just got to figure out how to transfer the weight accordingly. Perhaps a little scandinavian flick? Combine that with a little brake pedal and the tail should come right out. RallyX's help a lot for figuring out how to pivot the car on the front.

my problem is I'm used to usign the loud pedal to get the rear out, and invariably I end up getting sideways too quickly, and going too fast. I think I just need to work on timing and anticipation. I've been to a rally-X or 2, but I need to practice way more.

Igg : You're doing what a lot of people are doing wrong (and i always wanted to write a "how-to" for that ) You get your rear-end sideways with the _BRAKE_ (or releasing the gaz) , and you keep it sideways/control everything with the gaz or clutch. Sometimes, clutch also helps for getting the rear turn more quickly. also , ABS -> OFF. ABS will mess all your weight transfer you are so hardly trying to do in the snow

At 1:39 in the vid, you can see i'm on the brakes for a while and then back on the gas . But that was only for the "show" .. to have a lower-radius turn, i should have used the "pendulum" technique. I use that a lot in the inside-car / darker shots (3:30). This throws the rear end of the car into the turn, and you barely just have to floor the gaz and wait till it ends

in short, the secret is Practicing, and practicing a lot (and watching some japaneese drifting videos for the techniques )

ah and my tires are 2 years old (3rd this year) Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1, 195-65-15 they will ruffly be good for another winter.

Cool vid. Have you tried it in gravel yet?

Some of the car control I have used is left foot braking to help with the weight tranfer etc. Works really well in the Legacy.

Mark Ward : Not had the chance to do gravel with the legacy, but did a lot of gravel with the RS

but did some "tarmac / asphalt" with the legacy, look at the vids in the links of my signature.

i need a camera to film my stuff, i go drifting on dirt/gravel all the time and do lots of winter drifting in snow too!
i don't like to drift or even attempt it on tarmac, whether it is dry of wet. it feels weird to me. i like how on snow, it is so graceful and smooth. if i can film some stuff, i will try and make a short 1 minute clip of drifting.
