RRUN Racing moves to N4 class this weekend
VANCOUVER, BC There’s a new class rally car in town and it’ll be tearing
up the roads this weekend. RRUN Racing just finished building a group N4
car and will premiere it at the Pacific Forest Performance Rally, September
14 and 15 in Cache Creek, BC. Pacific Forest is the fifth event in the
Western Canadian Championship Series. This event is under observance by
national representatives from the Canadian Association for Rally Sports and
being considered for inclusion into the Canadian National Rally
Championships in 2002.
As of 2001, the Canadian Association of Rally Sport opened a new class,
Group N. This class is defined as a series production touring car, which
complies with the FIA regulations for Group N and which carry homologation
papers issued by the FIA. This new class represents a movement towards
compliance with International standards. As most models of cars available
in Canada do not qualify for Group N status yet, RRUN Racing’s efforts to
convert their current P4 car to N4 this year shows immense efforts from the
team to set an example of what’s to be in the coming years.
“Currently there are only a handful of Group N cars racing in Canada and
they are all in the East. I believe we are the only group N vehicle in this
part of Canada and we are totally stoked to have this opportunity to debut
it at this event.” says Mark Ward, RRUN Racing Driver. “In order for us to
move to Group N, we’ve had to bring in parts from all over the world.
Without the assistance from people in the international rally community, our
sponsors and supporters, we could not have achieved this endeavour.”
The team finished building the car this week. Waiuku Car Spares from New
Zealand provided parts and technical assistance. Daniel Wilson, veteran
Subaru Legacy rally driver from New Zealand acted as mechanical and
technical advisor. Chris Yuckum, local performance tuning specialist,
imported and provided the transmission from Japan. Meston Motorsports
helped with general mechanical support and troubleshooting. OK Tire from SW
Marine Drive in Vancouver provided overall mechanical and shop support.
“As with any new car, there’s always a process of debugging and trouble
shooting. We’re viewing this event as an opportunity to test the car in
real time and under real conditions.” says Ken Kwong, RRUN Racing Co-Driver.
“ We’ll do our best to keep the car on the road and post some good stage
times through the day. Over half of this event will be taking the
competitors on never before rallied roads. This will provide us with an
even playing field and we’ll see how the car holds up.”
RRUN Racing is currently fourth overall in the Western Canadian Series and
securely holds the Western Canadian Novice Pro-Rally Championship.
RRUN Racing is generously supported by RRUN vni, A&J Racing, OK Tire and
Service, and Glico Canada Corporation.
