following my post on slow legacy , since then ive changed/checked the
pcv valve , waisgate controll valve , dump valve , all piping ,
cleaned the afm , waistgate opperation , not much left to check .
found that if i reset the ecu the car mends itself for a short time .
so ive borrowed a ecu of chris @ WWW.scoobybits.co.uk (thanks m8)
ill try it tomorrow , im wondering if the ecu can put itself into
safe mode without throwing on the engine check light . this would
seem to make sence if the car is ok after a reset but as the ecu
picks somethink up it goes into safe mode n i loose all performance
anyone with any experience of this
thanx ROB

Rob, I have the same thing going on. I remember hearing somewhere that when
the knock sensor picks up something it retards the timing for about 200
miles or until you reset the ecu. This "doggieness" sure feels and sounds
like timing retard. I have gone as far as to put toggle switches on my test
connectors to make this easier. I am anxious to hear if a different ecu
helps this problem. I was also thinking of isolating the knock sensor so it
isnt so sensitive. My motor has 140k on it so I am a little scared to screw
around with this sensor. Good luck, BillC

yeah, it's subaru's infamous hesitation problem. It's a combo of knock sensor and ecu prob. I also think this ales more autos then manuals. But don't know for sure.

ive tried moving the knock sensor , there is a couple of spare holes
around the engine block to screw into , ive moved mine near the g/box
bellhousing also tried putting a fibre washer under it , no difference
going to try the ecu out on my way to work tomorow . ive never heard
the car knock but it dose have a couple of noisey tappets i wonder if
a knock sensor could pick these up by mistake ?. will let u all know
if i ever get it sorted
thanx for your replies
rob
