thinking of fitting a boost controller (on a budget)
ive been reading about them but dont know whats the best type to go
for on a legacy. there seems to be 2 manuel types
a bleed valve boost controller or a relief valve boost controller
from what ive read the relief valve boost controller seems to be the
one cos the waistgates shut until it reaches the pressure youve set
so the turbo comes in a lot more fierce . all this sounds great but
which one works best with the legacy any comments thanx

The boost controller I built is documented in the online mag Autospeed.

Essentially, it uses 0 - 15 psi Inline relief valve, 0 - 15 psi Pressure
Regulator, and a check valve with a 1 psi cracking pressure rating.

The boost line is routed to the relief valve which is set from 0 - 15 psi.
Boost signal is prevented from getting to the wastegate until your pre-set
level (no wastegate creep!). Signal is then fed to the presure regulator
which then controls max boost. I can dial it in so that the relief valve
opens at 10 psi, then the regulator can be set to run the peak boost to say
13 psi. The check valve is plumbed in between the wastegate and the
pressure regulator and vented back to the line entering the relief valve.
The check valve will only open when off boost, allowing the wastegate to
vent and to close. It is actually held shut while on boost.

Everything I wanted to achieve was in this controller. It works perfectly
with rapid boost and rock steady control. Huge improvement in performance,
but it definitely runs the engine harder as it is on boost way more than
stock....perfect for racing, hard on the cooling system.
