JC Sports turbo expansion tank 2.0

Tired of living in fear that you will breathe too hard on your turbo coolant expansion tank?
Is the epoxy patch job you did a few months ago starting to show signs of failure?
An answer may be coming to a location near you.
After living with a do-it-yourself JB Weld patch job to my expansion tank for 2 years because;
1) new tanks were too expensive
2) used ones were too risky
3) I trusted the epoxy more than the original
My tank was starting to show evidence of impending failure
I had read in the Legacy Central Library of the JC Sports Aluminum replacement tank with
a new design in the works, which would permit an intercooler installation with less interference.
Phone contact to JCS confirmed stock was on hand
Sent a cashier's check for the new design mid August
Called about a week later to confirm receipt of check and get delivery date
Check had been received, part would ship following week
Called following week to see if part had shipped
Was informed stock on hand is old design (1.0) and new design (2.0) was getting fabricated
Old epoxy was starting to fail, tank was starting to leak, tried new epoxy over old epoxy
Called a week later to see how fab was progressing
Was informed welder had been sick a week but was now working on new design
Called a week after welder was back on job
Welding done except for filler neck
New epoxy failing under pressure after 2 weeks, getting desperate
Expected completion over the weekend or early the following week
Early the following week I'm carrying water and filling on a regular basis
Mid week, welder is finishing up the filler neck
Mid week, on the freeway, going to work, temp climbs towards danger zone
I get off freeway and engine shuts down at bottom of off ramp
Water I'm carrying saves me enough to fire up and limp to work
Inform JCS of my plight that morning, I need overnight delivery and tracking number
I leave my car in the parking lot and get a ride home
Thursday mail delivery no tank. Drop off was too late for next day air. Get ride to work.
Friday mail delivery, nobody home, missed delivery attempt. Get ride home.
Saturday I'm standing in the street to meet the mailwoman.
My tank finally arrived, about five weeks after first contact.
Took me back to the wild and reckless days of my youth, trying to score contraband.
But hey, I didn't want the stock on hand, I had to have the new intercooler ready 2.0 design, right?
And the moral of this adventure is....
Don't wait till the last month before you do something about that tank.
In the second and final installment of this 2 part series, we'll take a look at the
construction and installation of the JC Sports Turbo Expansion Tank 2.0
See you then, same time, next time
