Hit the NOS!!!

A friend of mine with a WRX just got a 75 shot of dry NOS. The usdm WRX's are open deck right? Well, I want your thoughts on squirting the juice in open deck boxers.....like my EJ22

. I know the EJ20 is "bulletproof" but what steps do I need to take to run say...a 50 shot of dry NOS. My subie is in perfect running order(cept for the daggum air suspension). Lemme know.

I thought the wet systems were "safer" I looked at a dry kit and it said to adjust the carb to run rich...

Tell your friend to say goodbye to his motor!!
A dry system is NOT RECOMMENDED on a turbo car and WILL BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE!! Turbo cars are designed to run rich, and when you introduce nitrous oxide into the engine, without supporting fuel addition (ie: a DRY kit), you will run VERY LEAN!!
OMG, and a 75 shot?!?!?

If you're going to play with NOS, you need to know what you're doing.
Firstly.....go wet.....it's much safer (plus being wet is good for other things too

) Sorry....bad innuendo
To do it properly, there are several things you need to look into.
More fuel....since NOS is essentally adding more O2 for the engine to burn.....you need more fuel.
Also.....some sort of ignition/timing controller that can back timing off when you are on the NOS, so your engine don't go BOOOM

Wait -- a dry kit adds nitrous oxide without adding any fuel?
I thought the difference between wet and dry installations was that wet setups injected fuel and nitrous mixed together, while dry setups injected just nitrous and used some external means of increasing injector pulse width or fuel rail pressure.

Damn, I hate writing up these posts while at work!! The second somebody comes by I have to close the window and try to regain my thoughts
Anyways, you're right that a dry nitrous setup will use some sort of fuel regulator to increase fuel pressures to the injectors, however, the amount of actual fuel injected is dependent on the ecu's timing of the injector pulses based on pre-set parameters . . . It's very tricky to figure out the proper fuel pressures necessary based on different ecu timing configurations (varying temp, altitude, etc).
With a wet setup, you already have a PROPORTIONED measure of nitrous and fuel, so you won't have these problems.

HAHAHAHAHA! My friend is hasty in making decisions. He did in fact do a dry setup, but has not used it. He has a 20lb bottle too. He's kinda ghetto but a good guy. Lets say I used a 100 shot wet system. What do I need to do BEFORE I get the system installed? Piston rings? ZEX and Holley NOS are the best ways to go Ive heard. Justin(my friend with the REX) used Holley NOS. We both frequent the track on amatuer night whenever I am in town. I dont want anything crazy like a 200 shot DPNI. Although it would be cool..... for the one run my engine would survive! Another friend has a ZEX system on his BEAST of a 94 RX7. I have no clue how much he is squirtin'.
PS: DPNI = direct port nitrous injection

If you had a turbo shortblock you could get away with a big shot...Hmmm low compression, stronger pistons, prolly better head gaskets... Yes it just might work!!! and I think STi has a N/A.

If you're going through all the trouble to get a turbo short block, why not just turbo it? Nitrous has it's advantages at the 1/4 mile track, but wouldn't you want that power all the time without having to hit a switch? You don't have to "refill" turbos
