4.11 is not legal for production class, you are stuck with 3.90 sadly. On
the very fast stages at Bighorn Rally last year I managed to pull 2 3rd
fastest times with a stock legacy with good suspension but in the tight
stages, I was lost, not enough power. This is why I converted to N4 to get
kick ass power in a "production" car.
I use Tein suspension but we (my car builder and I) are trying to build a
new suspension using bilstien insets and a modified version of suspension we
saw on a wrc car (modify to fit the legacy/impreza). We will see how this
goes. Factory STI rally springs are rear 173/184/195 lb springs and front
are 218/229/240 lb springs for everyones info(snow/gravel/hard gravel).
Understanding of course the 323 was very developed car, maybe over
overdeveloped for Production class.

Welcome to the list John.
Mark, myself and possibly you are the only ones running Legacy's as
Performance Rally cars. (Anyone else?) Mark runs a Group N Legacy with a
EJ20T (!!!), And I am a Crew Chief for Dave Kozegi who runs a Production 4
Legacy.
I have to agree with the statements you've made about the Legacy. The car
is very competitive on fast courses, but it lacks the power to deal with the
very best. The last race we were in, a lttle 323GTX (Januz) was
untouchable. Our car has beaten him before, but rarely on equal terms. If
we beat him, odds were that he dnf'd. Our car has been very reliable with
not one DNF the whole season.
Plans are up in the air for next year but hopefully we'll make it down to
the states for a couple rallies. Anybody have any info on running the North
American Cup?
Anyway, I am curious about the gearing question myself. With rally tires,
and slow corners, the car bogs like crazy. Not enough power to spin the
wheels, and too tall gearing to take advantage of the power we do have.
Fast sweepers Josh is right, it flies!!
If you have any questions, this is definitely the place to ask them.
Rabin

> Well key to winning is not neccessarily fastest car. You could have
fastest car, but if you can't keep it on the road it's useless. So driving
smooth is far more important. As you said the Legacy is very smooth on
speed. If you can retain speed through cornering and such, you will be
faster overall.

are adjustable. Also I would recommend upgrading the rear anti-sway bar to
put a little more balance back into the car. You can get a larger bar from
a later model GT or outback. Also replacing the front drop-links (OEM) will
help out steering input and such. Dave did this mod and he was very happy
with the results. I've yet to do this.
