ok here goes....
removal:
take off every hose hookup, remember where they go and block off the fluid ones like antifreeze. then the tough part came.. the bolts on te downpipe end were easy.. the ones on the uppipe two would not budge. so i went under the car and removed the three piece manifold section. then i removed the two bolts that hold the bracket onto the uppipe/turbo. then i muscled the turbo out. we had to use heat and chisels to remove one bolt holding the turbo on and one bolt for the bracket for the uppipe, non seize my ass... we ddestroyed two studs in te process. so after drilling them out and tapping them, i had to heli-coil them. that being all done (F'N $60 helicoil kit) I torqued the studs..
cleanup: since the old turbo was an oil slinger, I used some brush on cleaner and degreaser made for aluminum engines and cleaned everything i could... got electromotive and cleaned all the oiled connectors. blew everythign off with compressed air (this is day 2 mind you). now with everything clean and replaced. now comes reassembly!!!
reassembly:
bolted on bracket, uppipe, turbo, downpipe. torqued all nuts. the water hookups on te driver side of the turbo are at a differnt height than the VF-11 so you will have to trim off and grind down the connector between the in and out for the water. the oil out obviously fits... the oil in does not fit ONE bit... the housing is about 1" lower and to the left of it and the wastegate flange gets in the way. another thing, there is no 90deg pipe for the turbo inlet, so you will need a 90deg silicone hose and some clamps with a 2 1/4 OD piece of pipe to join that and the intake elbow... past that with the MY93-96 WRX IC hook up is a breeze... all fits like a glove . make sure you buy all the gaskets, extra nuts and bolts first. you will need em!
