anyone know what make we have, what CC/min and any other info about our stock injectors?

id like to uprate them but i would like some base info first... (91 turbo) i just replaced the turbo with a TD-04 and 85% its strong pull.. other times its hesitant.. im thinking fuel... 145k im thinking injectors and fuel pump. first im gonna send the injectors out have em cleaned and flow blueprinted for $100... cheaper than new injectors... then when i get a fuel controller, ill change the size of them.

but first.. i need some baseline info!

I think we've gone over this a dozen times...

They're in the 360-380cc range.

Hi-They`re definitely 380/cc/min per Wayne @ RC Eng. BTW, they offer a complete mod (overbore, smoothing, etc.) for throttle bodies for about $250 U.S. Now that my injectors are blueprinted, that`ll be the next item before the dyno tune. I`ll keep you all posted.---ROD (AZ.)

I wonder what the capacity of the Legacy turbo fuel pump is does
anyone know? Subaru has a history of supplying just enough fuel pump
for a stock engine. I know that a fuel pressure regulator will help
matters as a higher pressure will give a better pattern and a bit more
fuel it did on my car. I have access to the regulator and a 255 lph
fuel pump. Using this pump and regulator the math on my engine works
out to 300-320 hp @7200 rpm.

We installed the redone injectors this A.M. & there`s definitely a difference. Smoother idle, less hesitation from part to full throttle & a skosh more power at the big end. Once the throttle body & the dyno tune are done, it should make a major difference. Again, i`ll keep everyone posted as to my progress.---ROD (AZ.)

Hey Rod, what size would they be boring the throttle body to? and I'm assuming they'd have new butterfly and everything to go with it, basically send them your throttle body, and you get it back and bolt back on?

Also, you have mentioned your dyno tuning thing before....what are you tuning on your car? I know you've done the turbo kit, and MSD II ignition, have you done something else to require more tuning? Or is it something else?

I have talked with Robert, that dual roller bearing turbo sounds SWEET......for the time being....he also has convinced me to stay with the auto tranny in my car if I'm goin to add the turbo kit, says it will handle the torque alot better.

Josh-The TB will be opened up somewhere between 62-65mm (whatever is safe.) They`ll also smooth out all the sharp edges and the butterfly shaft for maximum flow. I bought a used TB to send them when I have an additional $249.00 + frt. It is just an R&R excercise when completed. The MSD I (#6211) has external switches to set all the features; MSD II (#6212) is a plug-in to a hand-held unit, a laptop or PC. Right now I have the unit installed with no settings-just a straight CD ignition. I have`nt bought a used lap-top yet as I don`t have the Link engine management. That will come with the new engine. What we`ll do is set the timing retard based on boost (not RPM), revlimiter, maximum boost protection based on available fuel, air-fuel ratio, convertor & front-wheel HP figures. This "tune" should last me until I build the new motor. As the old saying goes "speed costs money-how fast you wanna go???" See `ya---ROD (AZ.)

Let me know about the throttle body and stuff. If you want to go in together and buy a used one for them to "practice" on let me know....or were you just goin to buy a used one and swap it in?

As for the tuning.....Do you have new ECU management now? or are you planning? I pretty much would like to follow your lead on your N/A legacy that's been converted to turbo by Robert. I have talked with him. He has for the time being swayed me away from my auto to 5spd conversion.

I am planning to get an MSD II ignition system in the next couple months. Is there software that comes with it to tune things....I do have a laptop. Do you have an additional boost controller, or will the MSD II unit suffice for what you need since you're not running lots of boost...

But I would definitely love to know what sort of stuff would be the right direction to go, considering the turbo kit, and for tuning, any mistakes or things you would have done differently on your project.

Thanks

Josh

Josh-The TB will be modified by RC Eng. in L.A. (same ones did my injector blueprinting); it probably won`t go over 62mm in size due to limitations (per George in Aust.) but will function much better. I already have a used (newer than mine!) TB to send. I`ll let everyone know how that works out. As for the MSD, it`s fully progammable from an available hand-held unit, PC or laptop. It`s not the same as a Link or Tech II system as it works with the ignition parameters only. No A/F control, additional injector control, etc. I have the stock ECU for now, but will be upgrading to a programmable unit once I build the new motor. I`ll need it for Calif. emissions plus better performance on our wonderful 91 octane fuel. The MSD #6212 has its own floppy for your programming needs; this will be done while on the frt.-wheel drive dyno in a month or so. I`ll have the boost, timing retard (related to boost) A/F ratio set plus other tuning mods to help my engine run at its best. At $120.00 per hr. dyno time, it should`nt take more than a couple of hours to get everything dialed in. THEN, off to the 1/4 mile for its first test. We`ll go from there. See `ya---ROD (AZ.)

By the way I have had my TB enlarged to 62mm, amazing to look at
compared to standard, the TB is almost 62mm all the way through and
makes a huge difference to performance, especially above 4k rpm.

We recently flowed 3 different EJ injectors. They flowed the following at 38
psi:

Atmo EJ22- 260cc/min.- good for 190hp. Grey tops.
Turbo EJ22- 360cc/min.- good for 262hp. Pink tops.
Turbo EJ20- 425cc/min.- good for 309hp. Light brown tops.

These are interchangeable within the fuel rails with the addition or
deletion of a spacer under the injector. Subaru used both pintle and disc
type injectors. The disc type have a finer and wider spray pattern but as
far as we know, flow rates are the same for each specific engine. All
injectors are high impedance.

Guys:
I've had there page book marked for some time..I'm always surprised with the realitive ease that they modify parts of the engine. Most if not all the engines i've seen have a differant intake manifold(cause there all hand made and no two are the same), Parts swaped out of other cars like gm, mazda, hundreds of differant turbo varations, differant intercoolers and radiators and most of them have infin monitary and equipment resourses.. hehe (jelousy speaking). My only questions with that intake manifold would be:

A: would they give any benifit to the automotive area of the 2.2T or 2.2NA or 2.5NA?

B: I don't know what research went into the construction of the fuel rails, but it looks quite (i hate to use the word) primitive? would we, if we were to use that intake manifold, stick with the original stock fuel rail or try the hodge-podge job fuel rail..?

I'm sure he could make one reverse for automotive needs, i also notice how each guy, has these complex turbo tubing layouts, and complex intercooler designs, that we would A: be in aww of, and B: be scared to think how archane and backwards the designs are.. AND of course it is! cause it has to fit into an airplane..

What some of us should do.. it talk to this guy.. see if he can splinter away a bit from aircraft and discard any ideas, products toward land based flyers.. Cause it looks like he fabricates EVERYTHING him-self, the exhast manifolds i've seen are par with anything come from MRT, the intercooler and intake pipeing are all mild steel talk about non ?restrictive? and he's most likely got resourses and idea we haven't even thought of.

just a thought..

David,

Check out this info on turning the fuel rails from series to parallel

We recently flowed 3 different EJ injectors. They flowed the following at 38
psi:

Atmo EJ22- 260cc/min.- good for 190hp. Grey tops.
Turbo EJ22- 360cc/min.- good for 262hp. Pink tops.
Turbo EJ20- 425cc/min.- good for 309hp. Light brown tops.
