Ok so I got this cd player I just bought ( Kenwood
kdc-v7017) its 200watts x4

I also have this cheap equalizer I want to install
(mostly to take up the extra room in the car)(also
claims to be 200 watts but its really cheap)…

Here’s my question…

If I hook up the cd player to the equalizer. Then the
equalizer to my speakers… will it be using the
200watts from the cd player or from the equalizer?

will it sound ok?

Also do I use the rca ins and outs of both units or
just the speaker outputs?

(I’ll only be running 4 speakers)

You would most likely use the RCA's to connect the EQ
to the Head Unit. If you don't have an amplifier, you
would then run speaker wire out of the EQ to the
respective speakers. That is assuming there are
speaker (Line Level?) outs on the EQ itself.
Otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the EQ at all.
If you have an amp or two, you would attach the amp(s)
with RCA's from the EQ. Then run Speaker wire to the
respective speakers. Don't know if this makes much
sense or not. I've done a fair amount of stereo
stuff, especially on Subarus...93 legacy turbo, 97
outback, 00 impreza RS. Basically every model other
than the BE/BH.

I don't know about the actual wattage. Someone else
may be able to add more in that area.

Brian is pretty much on target with his directions.

I just wanted to add that an eq does not add any power to the system. All it does is tweak the frequency range. So your head-unit would have the power (amp) in it, and then you would be feeding to the eq. and then to speakers.

Not to sure how it'll sound. RCA's usually have better sound characteristics, but for your system.....I doubt the deck is putting 40watts rms out.....so your power levels are not goin to be that high.

But hook it up and find out I guess.

I've got pics and what not of my stereo in my legacy on my site www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html It's a pretty involved system too....but after 4 years of installing componants and swappin better stuff in....I've got it how I want.
