abs free run

I have been lurking for a while learned a lot from you guys, thanks.
A couple of days ago I was siting in the burger king parking lot with the engine running. I then turned it off and about five or ten minutes started it back up again to leave. When I did I heared a noise sounding like an electric motor running. I drove for a little while and the noise persisted. The ABS light in the dash was on. I pulled over, shut off the car and the noise persisted. I popped the hood and the motor running sound was coming from under the ABS unit in the front left corner of the engine bay. I found the fuse for the ABS relay under the dash and pulled it out. This caused the noise to stop. I then put the fuse back in and everything seems to be fine now. Any ideas out there on how this could happen? Is this something I should be worried about?
Thanks, Hunter
