If you ask me I'd say go for the Auto! I'm pretty pissed right now! My
clutch started to slip on Fri.! That in itself isn't so abnormal except for
the fact that my '92 Turbo Legacy (CDN VER.) only has 112,000km on it!!! No
it doesn't end there. I replaced the clutch b4 at about 70,000km with the OEM
replacement from Subaru. That's right not even 50,000km and it's slipping
again!!! I'm hoping the hydrualic system just needs to be bleeded out or
something because this is insane. I know that I'm not a bad driver and I'm
not ALWAYS driving like a mad man. How many km's or miles are you guys
getting out of ur turbo Legacys with what is supposed to be a standard heavy
duty clutch???

When my first clutch went my mechanic said the bearing had seized up which had
caused the clutch to go but I don't know what the hell happened this time yet!
I know I do almost all city driving but that's no excuse for this! I'm not
to keen on paying $900.00 CDN on a new clutch every 3 1/2 years! I've been
running 12psi since May/01 and I hear it's not a problem for the OEM clutch to
handle!

Can anyone shed any light on what appears to be very excessive clutch wear????

STRESSED

I did replaced my clutch at dealer shop at 110000km and now the car
is 240000km and the clutch still running fine! I argee the OEM clutch
is expensive but it works well.
Now I am waiting for the Japan Spec. Engine coming and I think its
time to replace the clutch again!
Should I go for OEM, ACT, or CentreForce?? Still not decide yet.
Also, is it worth to replace the lighted flywheele???

I used to have a 91 legacy on which the clutch slipped occasionally. I believe the rear main seal leaked a very small amount and would on occasion make the clutch plate slippery. I used some crank case stop leak which solved the problem for months on end.....

I would think you could smell oil burning from the clutch if this was a frequent problem and indeed an oil leak..

I've got a new, light Exedy Flywheel, a Group N Subaru disc and
WRX pressure plate to go in my car this weekend. The disc and
plate were recommended by Richard Buckner as pretty heavy
duty but not too hardcore.

I'll let you know how they work out next week.

That all depends on if you're going to bump up the power on your legacy and
if so, how far down the road.

If you're not or its going to be a while before you do; I would suggest the
OEM group N disc and Forester pressure plate setup that Dave got from
Richard Buckner.

If you ARE going to beef it up soon, i'd go for the Centerforce dual
friction; it's just damn beefy; and comfortable too.

Stay away from the ACT at all costs. period.

As for flywheels, since you're going to have the clutch out anyway, now
would be the perfect time to replace it with a lightened one
(I prefer the Primitive Racing flywheel. Not only rally tested, but i have
one in my car and it's bumped my gas milage up considerably as well as being
easy to drive with).
