1994 Turbo Sport Sedan

[japtexas2001]

85,000 miles, just developed an oil leak. Thought it was a bad
filter, the oil change place replaced it, leak got worse. Really bad
this morning. (total elapsed time = maybe a week) Just took it to a
dealer. Says could be the crank seal, but it was replaced at 60k for
the timing belt, so they doubt it. Says it's probably the oil pump
seals. Suggests oil pump seal replacement, water pump replacement,
timing belt since we are in there along with the belt tensioner that
I've seen mentioned before. I am thinking I might replace the valve
cover gaskets because I have some seapage on one side. I know I won't
be saving myself any money, but I will kill two birds with one stone
convenience wise. All together looks like $700-800, sound reasonable.
I'm not the least bit mechanical, so shadetree stuff is pretty much
out of the question (no matter how much Josh tries to talk me into
it! ). Anything I'm forgetting or should consider?

I am just doing all seals on my 2.0 Turbo. Crank, oil pump, and 4 camshaft
seals are running me 420 cdn labour included. The valve cover seals are $12
cdn each and are probably an additional 2-3 hours work for both to install.

Timming belt would be another 240 cdn, no install charge.

It may be your cam shaft seals that are leaking.. When changing the
timing belt @ 100,00km it's common practice to change the cam shaft
seals, since everytyhing is apart anyway. Haven't heard of an oil
pump seal going....

Hey Josh,

Friday nights and Saturday mornings are Ryan's soccer
practices/games. So, you nailed it, time constraints are the real
issue. Plus, the dealer is having a little trouble with two parts.
Can't remember which ones off hand. It was 5 pm yesterday (thursday)
when they finally came up with their best guess, so overnights were
out of the question. Looks like I'll be taking it in next Thursday
morning (after M & W school days) for a big ole tear down. Oh well.
It should get me another 60k miles of piece of mind. Or be a great
sales gimmick, should the time come. I bought WRX wheels and tires
from Bankheist in TXIC, have you seen that? They were less than I
would have spent on new mediocre tires alone, so I said, what the
heck. Check was Fed-exed yesterday.
