Parting Out!!!! 1992 Subaru Legacy L AWD 2.5 Swap

Post by jpimm2002 »

EDIT: 2-22-08
Ok, Change of plans. I am now just going to part this out.

Here's what I'm looking to get out of the parts:

2003 NA ej25 SOLD!
KYB AGX with GC coilovers 325#/275# SOLD!
Whiteline Sway Bars (front and rear) SOLD!
XACT streetlight Flywheel SOLD!
OBX EL Headers SOLD!
Cusco Camber Plates SOLD!
VW 15" wheels with 185/65/15 Michelin x-ice snow tires. PENDING
I do NOT have the WRX wheels that are in some of the pictures.

All prices are OBO, plus shipping. Would prefer local pickup.

Also has:
2 good fenders
trunk lid
all 4 doors
seats
rear diff
nearly new front cv axles
all the interior trim
steering wheel
automatic seat belts
good clear headlights SOLD!
tail lights
corner markers SOLD!
.
.
.
you get the idea.

I'm also no longer interested in selling the whole car.

On any of the parts that make it so I can't push the car around (struts, camber plates, wheels) I need to find cheap replacements before I can let them go. I think I still have the stock strut tops but I'll have to look.

Oh and one other item, I have a set of 205/50/15 Avon Tech RA R-compound tires on steel wheels. 3 of them are about 2/3 tread and one is slightly flat spotted in one spot. about 1.5-2 32nds vs. 3 32nds for the rest of the tire. Looking to get $300 for these. The tires will be local pickup only. SOLD!

OK, my legacy is officially for sale. I was up in Spokane for a rallycross a couple weeks ago and broke second gear in the transmission.

Here's the list of mods currently:
Engine:
Has a 2003 NA EJ25 swap running off the original ECU (engine only has ~35-40K miles on it)
ACT Streetlite Flywheel
Freshly cleaned injectors
OBX EL Headers (not emissions legal (no cats))
K&N cone filter on stock intake tube

Suspension:
Legacy Turbo front brakes
15" VW wheels with 185/65/15 Michelin X-Ice Studless Snows.
KYB AGX struts
Ground Control Coilover Kit (325# Front / 275# Rear)
Whiteline Swaybars (22mm Front / 22mm Rear modified to about 25-26)
Camber Bolts
CUSCO Camber Plates
Custom short shifter

80/100W Headlight bulbs with relays
Hella ff75 driving lights with 100W bulbs with relay

The body has 303000 miles on it but is in very good condition considering. It has a dent on the passenger rear quarter panel and one on the driver side of the hood where I hit a dog a while back. The interior is in good shape it mainly just needs the carpet shampooed.

Here's some old pics: (i'll take some new pics when i get home tonight)

Here's the modified rear sway bar:

The engine runs strong. The timing curve on the 2.2 ECU is fairly aggressive so it does have an occasional pinging problem. I do have the 2.5 ECU that I will include with the car but you will need to come up with a wiring harness if you want to use it. A piggyback ECU could easily retard the timing a little bit and should fix the problem also. This motor is very strong. It will easily break all 4 loose on dry pavement. Assuming you're on street tires and not r-comps.

cool car, i just got done doing that to my 90, but i have to ask what intake manifold did you use. i use the one from the 99 forester that the motor came with but using the 2.5 intake and the 2.2 throttle body didn't allow for an functioning IAC, so i run with out one.

or did you do the 2.5 block with 2.2 heads?

and mine had some pinging also but 92oct took that all away, FYI

I actually have a custom machined aluminum block between the TB and intake manifold. you can see it in one of the pictures. It's basically a TB spacer that you can mount the IAC to.

oh i see it. i guess there are other options for doing this too, some late 90s JDM WRX intakes i guess will work will bolt up and use the 2.2 IAC, or run the ej18 throttle body because it has the IAC on the TB unlike the ej22

i just run with out one. it's on my rally car, so cold starts are the least of my worries.

but good luck with the sale.

i know what it cost to do mine so your price is damn fair.

ok one more question, what coil did you use? it looks like it's the one for the 2.5. i could never get mine to fire so I had to go back to using the 2.2 coil.

Did you repin it?

I cut and spliced the wires going to it. I don't remember exactly what I did anymore. I know I just grounded one of the wires and spliced the rest. I think I found the info on NASIOC somewhere. I'll look at it tonight and tell you which wires go where.

And here's a few of the very minor damage. other than these there is only a couple very minor dings and scratches.

Overall I think you would be very hard pressed to find a car with that many miles in this good of condition.

I just edited my craigslist post and thought I'd add the same info here.

Before anyone trys to talk me down on price. Here's what I have into the car.

2003 2.5 swap $1500
ACT Streetlight Flywheel $250
KYB AGX $400
Ground Control Coilover sleaves $399
Whiteline Swaybars $400
Camber Plates $220
OBX EL Headers $300
____________________________________
$3499
And that doesn't include any of the little things involved in the process. It doesn't include the cost of the car or shipping on the parts listed. I give this car one month to sell. Then all the parts get stripped and go on Ebay. I guarantee I will get $2500+ if I strip this thing down to the frame rails. This time next month the parts are on Ebay.

Really? Isn't Montana a bit far?

Right now I just really want this car gone. I already had one guy ask me if I would come down on the price and hasn't talked to me since. If if figure 1/2 - 2/3 price on all the parts on this car there is easily $1700 that I can get on ebay (and thats figuring only getting $700 out of the engine). That's just in upgrades. Not touching on all the perfectly good body panels, headlights, taillights, etc.

Please tell me there's at least one person interested in this car. I haven't even had one person come look at it yet. I really don't want to go through the process of parting it out (that's why its priced this cheap).

A few things I don't think I mentioned......... The heater is hooked up and works. The A/C blows COLD. Power windows. Power door locks. Cruise Control. All of which works except the passenger window is sticky.

Oh and it has a CLEAN TITLE. If you live in a non emissions area like me, It's ready to license and go. If not all it needs is to weld in a cat.

Well due to the complete lack of interest I'm probably going to end up just parting this thing out. I guess I'll get more out of it that way anyway. I'll wait till I hear back from freerange before I decide for sure but if he doesn't take it I'll start taking offers on the parts. I need money for the auto-x season, so this car or at least parts of it need to be gone soon.

I'm possibly interested in the engine. It should pop right into my car without any problems. I'd want the newer ECU though, just in case.

My engine has about 100k miles more one it :)

$400 plus shipping. I need to find some stock struts to throw in it first.

Anyone have some blown struts I can get for free.

My original post has been edited with parts and prices.

I just got a PM from someone in Portland on those, and there's enough bulk to them that I would prefer to not have to ship them.

No I don't hate MT. I would just prefer local pickup on the larger items.

Would you be taking the whole set or just the coilover sleeves? I ask because I cut the spring perches off when I put the coilovers on and it would be pointless to separate them since I wouldn't be able to sell the shocks separately. It sounds like the guy in Portland only wants the sleeves and I'm not going to separate the two if I don't have too. My guess is he will back out since the new cost on the coilovers alone is what I'm asking for the set.

Without knowing the exact weight and your location it looks like it should be about $30 to ship them. If you're still interested PM me with your address and I can get you a more exact estimate.
