Oh, man.... I'm sorry, I don't know (personally I would never stray from the EJ22t, knowing what I know about it's strengths)...

However, you pointed me to a very dangerous page:

Any ej20g from a wrx is fine... That's what I almost bought, but I found a deal on a ej22t I couldn't pass up. but you shouldn't have to worry about waiting for a forester ej20g

I keep looking for wiring info and I know it's on here but just need a clarification. Are the threads about converting the EJ20G ECU to work on the EJ22T and converting the ignition also the same steps to get the EJ20G to work in the car as well and not just the ecu to power the stock EJ22T?

Your question is worded in a little bit of a complicated way.

I think for starters, you're going to want to use the 22t engine harness on that engine. You may have to extend some wires for some of the sensors. After you accomplish that, you can then install your 20g ecu based off the installatuon instructions of the rob tune.

That's What I Thought. Thank You Sorry It Was A Confusing Question. Just Seems Like The Threads Are Only About Fitting The EJ20GECU To The Ej22t.

If you have converted your car to an EJ20G ECU, the all you have to do to USE and EJ20G is make sure you use all of the sensors and wiring from the 22T and you will be good to go.

Sorry for a 1 month bump but I was wondering if you got the ej20g installed yet? And also I had a few thoughts as to your engine issues...

What have you been doing for a break in period on the rebuilds and how much boost have you been running with the stock ecu?

Ej20 is unfortunatly not in yet. Break in I was doing 1000 miles, keeping it out of boost as much as possible, not letting it stay at one rpm for too long.

Lol alright just making sure you were letting it break in! In a few of the posts I had to wonder with you mentioning it being fun with 200 miles on it and I was like... that could make it eat bearings and stuff!

But if youre doing a proper break in that definitely not the problem 8)

How much boost are you running?

I would recommend a boost gauge then... Possible that something is not right so you're constantly overboosting... Overboost = Detonation which could destroy your engines like you've been going through.

Moving to CO BUMP! Trying to get the motor together and at least started before I move but not sure if that will happen. Just got gasket set, timing belt, new oil pump, new water pump, new acc. belts, and waiting on head bolts.

EJ20G has been split and we found it had a rob bearing spun. Glad I took it apart first. Looking for a crank and pistons now. My EJ22T eagle forged rods will work in my G correct?

Can't say for sure, but yeah I thought EJ20 and EJ22 rods were the same.

Now regarding coils, I recommend sticking to coil pack and leads, and to not go for the cool on plug, unless you are prepared to get 4 new coils off partsouq. The coil on plug setup with these 20G's is unreliable as heck, the coils always crap out. Here in NZ were these engines are common, coil+lead conversions are pretty common also. I always have spare coils in the garage for the 20G's in our fleet that haven't been converted to leads, that's how bad it is.

Thank you for the info. I'll be doing the wiring to convert it to my harness and getting it running first prior to any further mods. Next step is my injectors and the 550 RobTune.

Ej20 and ej22 rods are the same, and by that I mean interchangeable. sounds like a fun build! I reread your thread and echo my previous comment. That was painful to read! (Regarding all the mechanical problems you had).

The ej22t I have in my SS is the 1st one I've had that didn't crap out immediately. I'm crossing my fingers and I have another one on the stand "just in case". I had better luck with jdm ej20's though.
