Horn Relay...

Post by laser158754 »

I am hooking up some Hella Supertones, and was looking for some help
with the horn relay. On the right stock disk, there is one wire
going into it. On the left disk, there are two wires going into it.
Does anybody know what these are? All I need is the horn relay wire,
as I am getting power straight off the battery. Any insight? Thank
you,
Zak

Are you talking about the stock horns?

There should be a wire going into each stock horn. This is a positive
lead. The stock horns are grounded through their mounting. You should
be able to use either one of those wires as your trigger wire for the
hellas.

I kept the stock horns and wired up the hellas in addition. So now I
have four horns :) And they are loud mofos. I've attached a pic of my
setup. I did have them in the stock location, but it was a tight
squeeze. I moved them....they look pretty good where they're at now.

Horn Relay...

Wow, very interesting mounting place for the supertones! I just
figured out how to shoehorn mine in both on the right side of the
grill, one mounted to a hole, the other mounted to the right side of
the hood latch plate. Yeah, I was talking about the stock horn
wires. When I disconnected them, the right one had one wire going to
it, and the other had two wires fed into a connector, which was
attached to the left horn. So, any of those will work for the horn
relay? Thanks again,
Zak

Any of those should work. If you don't have a test light or multi-meter, I suggest you get one, and that will tell you for sure as to which one has juice when you honk the horn. Just stick the test light end into the connector, clip the other end to a good ground, and when you honk the horn, the light in the handle should light up.

There may be some inconsistancy as to how the horns were wired up between years or models. The test light will tell you, and is an invaluable tool when doin electrical stuff.
