Remember, some people dropped out so he still needs 2 or 3 for a bumper and 1 or 2 for the hood!

BTW, when do we get the parts?

Update for David

Post by Legacy777 »

David posted this on the bc-bf list.....he may get around to post, but I figured I'd give everyone a heads up.

WE CAN USE MORE PEOPLE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED!!
Long story short. I'd like to post pictures but don't have a digital
camera to do it with. The hood looked OK but that was about it. We
had to wait on a pair of crimping pliers so that we could recess the
hood vents and we'll prolly be doing the turbo scoop too. The hood
vents were up until now just sitting on top of the hood which was
OK but the longer Jon and his dad looked at it the lousier looking it
got. They decided that the hood would be "and unacceptable
product" and that you prolly wouldn't like it like that. I told them to
do what they needed to and to be careful as we only have one
hood. They did a great job! The only other hold up after we get all
the work done will be the cash shortage. We lost 4 people on the
hood and 3 on the bumper. That means that I'm going to have to
cover those costs. I'm home on christmas exodus (break) I'll be
leaving on the third. I'm still having Jon and his dad do work on the
hood but without the money from the people that canceled it'll take
till about Feb. before I can have the fiberglass guys do the hoods
and bumpers. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE'RE NOT
MAKING THEM. It just means that you'll have to wait just a little
longer. I'm getting a camera for christmas so you'll have pics of
what it looks like then.

Yours,
David Carter

P.S. Sorry about the delay with an update but there really wasn't
much to update so Jon didn't write. From now on he'll be writing at
least every other week reguardless with some kind of update, even
if it's to say there's nothing to update.

Okay, if someone can describe what is involved with installing the new bumper and I can get an image of the finished product I will probably buy one of those as well.

Ive already paid my full amount for the hood plus shipping since months ago (when I first heard about this)

I know it sucks but I have no doubt that later on others will be interested.

The bumper in the second pic isn't a 2001 RS bumper just so you guys know... this is the earlier Version II-IV WRX & Sport Impreza bumpers.

*Update* January 2nd 2003 i.e pics and stuff..*Update*

Post by David Carter »

Drive, and guys asking for pics of work so far.

Our digital camera is no longer with us, er..i.e non-functional.. so we are tring to get another cheap one.. the hood is 98.5% finished. the reason for the wait is i have been at boot camp and those at home don't work on it as much as i would.

I will get pictures up A.S.A.P

we resesed the vents just like on the rs hood so that they sit flush with the hood, that was a major thorn in my side when i left, but chris (the guy with the beard in the pics) fixed that problem, pics soon to come

other than that it should be able to be mounted on the car so that i can give you guys some-what an idea. it won't look as pretty as a finished painted peice.. but hopefully it will satisfy.

Most of you want to know what the big wait is. No it's not a big scheme, you all have my phone number and address and i'm sure a couple of you own guns so i don't need that.. We were suposed to start in late october after i shipped out, A.B.E had us scheaduled in to make the run of hoods, and then a couple months later the bumpers. he has other clients other than us. We still were waiting on checks in December, we got pushed back behind those clients who had paid and were ready.. Hoods should be starting Mid Febuary/Mid March, with the bumpers in Early April.

Some of you are asking " How are you writeing this? aren't you supposed to be in Basic Training?"

The US goverment dosen't know if we'll have any free time in the near future (hint hint) and has granted us Christmas exodus, I've been home from December 19th i leave for Ft lost in the woods (Ft.leonardwood) in a couple days. where i will continue my training. After that i will be home sometime Late march/early april after graduation.

My phone Number is still (610)821-9259
If i'm not home ask for Jon Clauss hes up to date on most things relateing to the fiberglass and he should be able to answer your question or relay it to me for a better answer.

Thank you for your time, and i wish you a happy new year.

David Carter

fiberglass!?!?!

Post by czo79 »

I was in on the attempt to put toghether the fiberglass order that fell through last year...Anyways, I hadn't been on any of the boards in a long time, and logged in to find that the deal was back on! Is it possible to still get in on it? I would like both the hood and the bumper. I havn't been able to get in touch with david carter by email. Is he who I have to talk to? Is there anyone else I could contact or any other way to get ahold of him?
Much Thanks

He is in basic training. I think he put his roommate's email in this post or on the webpage he made. His roommate is supposed to be handling things while David is gone

An update...

Post by David Carter »

I'm sure some of you are finally glad to hear from me. Sorry I didn't post sooner.
To make a long story short. We'll have pictures(yes pictures) up for you by tomorrow or Friday at the latest of the finished hood. I'll be talking with ABE Fiberglass to see what the schedule for them to start our project looks like. It won't get worse but he told me to keep checking back because sometimes his projects get cancelled. If you need me please send e-mail to David! I check his e-mail at least every other day if not more. His current address will work for sometime but I'm not sure how long. His new e-mail address is bussaca@claws-and-paws.com (this is up and running please send mail here!) Again sorry for the trouble and delay.

More Pictures

Post by David Carter »

I've got four more pictures for you guys I know it's not much but we're still waiting in line for our turn at ABE. I'll have to e-mail all of you the pictures in a zip file since I still can't put them up at David's web site so that they can be seen here. If you're not one of the buyers and you'd like me to e-mail you a copy of the files send me an e-mail at bussaca@claws-and-paws.com and I'll send it right off to you.

Till we get in the shop(which shouldn't be long at all)

Update...

Post by David Carter »

 Sorry. I know you hate me or that you're frustrated I haven't been updating more but here's what's going on....

I took the hood in the first time and he said I had to fill the holes in the vents to at least an eight inch so that he could get the texture in the mold. This means that I'll have to cut out the filled in bits before I send them. I can and am willing to cut them out for you guys since I've been such a pain with the updates and all and I'd like to see you guys happy. If you'd rather I just sent it to you that's your choice. We will however have to cut out the opening for the scoop and drill and tap the holes for the bolts for the hood mounts and the mount for the hood catch in the front. Please let me know if you'd like me NOT to do any of this. If so however, then you will be held responsible for the end result. Which means if you goof it up you pay for a new one. I do get AND RESPOND to ALL e-mails you send. The address again is bussaca@claws-and-paws.com

I'll be taking the hood in tomorrow for him to start making the mold on Friday. After the mold is complete he'll be able to make them at approx. two every 3 days. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Jonathan Clauss

PS. I'm sorry I forgot about this list, I've been posting to viewtopic.php?t=12 instead of here.

What do people think about the need for hoodpins with these hoods? I was just thinking cause they are lighter, if something went wrong, the latch screwed up etc, they would just fly right up and maybe break? Anyone think there is a need? Oh yeah, my turbo is kind of a gunmetal greyish, maybe battleship grey, The paint is kinda bad, is peeling on the spoiler, but I'm replacing that, I was kinda thinking I should get the whole car painted cause I want to put on side skirts, and the spoiler, what color should I go? Does color choice affect the cost of a paint job? how much should I expect to pay for a nice paint job? Whats the price range, anyone know? Much thanks...oh yeah...too paint the trim, doorhandles, mirrors, door stripes, etc? What y'all think?
Thanks
