making the 2.2 heads flow some air
so i have some questions for anyone that has taken the time to make the 2.2 heads flow some air. i know by their nature they will always flow less then the newer stuff, but i'm wanting, truthfully, needing to stick with the 2.2 heads.
and i guess i should point out, i'm talking about NA heads.
my goals are to make a 2.2/2.5 motor, but i would like to allow the thing to breath. and i know just about everything on the 2.2 heads are smaller then the 2.5 heads. but has anyone taken the time to get some respectable numbers out of them. or would i just be fighting a worthless battle.
and the only reason i am needing to stick with them, is because it's a space issue. it's not going in a subaru, and 2.5 SOHC and DOHC are just way to big to fit. but the 2.2 heads with the small valve cover fit just perfect.

I was wondering the same thing?? Has anyone put bigger valves and ported for more flow? I know the VW and Porsche world has been doing that for years??

Yes, in my old 92 leggy turbo. I had 1mm oversize valves a full port an polish with a 5 angle job and a swirl cut inside the port. As well as a port matched set of manifolds that had a swirl cut up the intake runners. With stock cams I ran just shy of 300 hp with ferrea springs and retainers. As well as full internals and balanced an blueprinted full engine set.

Were the valves ferrea as well?
93 legacy wagon L, 22T swapped (TW imitator) now with five forward speeds. (Gone, but never forgotten)

I just pulled up the 2011 catalogue and didn't see any applications in there for the 2.2 liter motor. Wonder if they ditched them from their product line.

Hmm, possibly, unfortunately I've moved 5 or 6 times since that build and I do not have my parts lust from that car anymore. I can try to dig around and look for you. I may still have it somewhere in the masses of binders...

check my results with delta cams on my EJ22T. I know it's different than the NA 2.2l but I have more top end with cams (and a P&P header with high flow crosspipe). It has a poer curve closer to the better flowing ej20g's or the like (doesn't fall on it's face so hard)
