First Gen production dates?

Post by 92wagon »

Since the First Gen Legacy has been out of production for 20 years I was wondering if anyone knew the production dates... (first Legacy built to last Legacy out the door) Not just Turbos but ALL Legacies. I've sent a message to SOA to see if they will respond as well.

I got these sales numbers from cars101.com (not sure if accurate)

1990
FWD Sales 49,948
AWD Sales 58,599
Total Sales 108,547

1991
FWD Sales 49,879
AWD Sales 55,173
Total Sales 105,052

1992
FWD Sales 49,552
AWD Sales 55,251
Total Sales 104,803

1993
FWD Sales 54,577
AWD Sales 49,602
Total Sales 104,179

1994
FWD Sales 40,361
AWD Sales 60,258
Total Sales 100,619

Total Sales from 90-94 = 523,200

so half a million sold in 5 years.. I wonder how many didn't sell.

I don't believe the FWD numbers, I've worked on hundreds of these cars and only came across about 10 of them. I don't think nearly half were FWD, I maybe wrong.

According to my parts catalogue at work, the 1st-gen Legacy was manufactured from 01/89 to 02/94.

I don't hardly see 1st-gen Legacies on the road at all anymore, but when they were more common, I saw FWD models far more often than I saw AWD models, which makes sense here in snow-less Florida.

In PA, I'd say half of all first gens being FWD sounds about right. They are everywhere... down here in NC, almost all of the first gens I've seen (which has been few enough to count on both hands mind you) were FWD.

Here there are still lots of first gens running around, and I guess because of my location not many FWD made it up here.
