First Snag of the day!

Post by LaureltheQueen »

Okay, so we were taking the bumper off, until we saw that there are wavey fin things running from side to side of the back of the bumper beam...

It's very unlikely that we'll be able to remove those or bend them back. Can I use the AC condenser as a radiator? thanks

how thick is your "radiator". I saw zak's setup and he had it slipped in front of the condenser...or maybe it was between the condenser and radiator, i forgot.

I don't think freon in the awic system is a good idea. How much space is in there? Why wouldn't you be able to use it if it's a stock piece?

were thinking aussie bumper beam is totally different, thinner backside = more space between, so you can get past the rad support/latcth mount.

I told you... Ha
It would be a serious pain to bend those fins, better to cut them flush and reweld. OR get a tranny cooler that will fit in there.

Yes you can use the A/C condenser but not with the A/C. If your A/C is broken or you don't use it like Me, it works fine and you make up for the weight of the AWIC by pulling out the rest of the A/C crap.

Best thing to do is go down to a trucking parts store and find a good aux tranny cooler.

my ac system is not charged, the body shop that replaced the condenser didn't charge it because they were out of r12, and I told them not to worry about it, the compressor still needs replacing. We spent hours getting the stupid bumper off, only to learn that even after hammering out the fins, the radiator is too wide to fit in front of anything. I'm reasonably sure the adm bumper beam is significantly thinner. I took nearly 50 photos already, we'll have enough for a very detailed write-up.

I'd like to thank everyone for coming up/down/over and helping out, it was very nice to meet all of you as well

Non-USDM (markets that had the AWIC stock) have different bumper beams IIRC.

Did you eventually get it in place? I'm interested in the pics of what your talking about, and perhaps a "don't fuck it up" bumper removal writeup. FMIC going in, I am going to need to make good use of my new air-cutoff wheel dealie whilst hacking the bumper beam apart.

Stupid bumper USDM bumper beams. . . . and I thought MINE was too beefy when I was cutting it to fit JDM fogs on my car.

Got out some great frustrations on those damn fins, though. . . . framing hammers always seem to come in handy when you least expect it.
