What I think is more disgusting is that your Social Security money is being wasted more, and by the time we all get to the point where we need it, there won't be any.
I don't mind giving my usual Uncle Sam money, because I know where it goes, but the money I give them to hold for my use later won't be there.
( I could rant for hours on this, but I will stop there)

SS sucks, yes, but it's the republican attitude --everyone takes care of themselves. I was reading a newspaper article, and apparently, if you make 90k+ per year, you don't pay FICA, which is the SS fund. Think about all the people who want to privatize and change the existing social security program --how many of them make LESS than 90k /yr?
My point exactly.
Again, the small people pave the roads for the upper class, and further the schism between the economic cumulous.

There are stipulations on this, I know plenty of people that make over 90k, yes I know for a fact they do, and still pay into social security.
I don't like the fact that we have to pay into SS, it won't be there when I get out but then again, it's my grandfather that's getting helped now and I feel it's the least I can do for him. Personally I am perfectly happy planning and being responsible for my own retirement. I plan to. Get rid of SS all together is what I say. The rest, eh... sucks that they take that much no joke and there are certainly times it seems a little disproportionate but then again I know where it goes. Certainly better than a lot of other countries too.

Other countries also have health care paid for. My problem is that the rich never pay their share. They may pay the majority of the taxes, but percentage of income wise it's a joke. Plus they could afford to pay a much higher percentage than the rest of us and still live very well.
I saw a program on megayachts yesterday. $30 million dollars, 130' long and can do 75 mph (!). IMpressive, but how many people could that pay for college? I don't know how they live with themselves. If I were a millionaire I'd build a modest house, buy some cheaper cars, help my family, invest intelligently for modest living expenses, and start acharity fund with the majority. The ex hitman in my novels does this exact thing and even looses his dream business through not enough reinvesting since he dumps most profits into the charity. I thought it was an interesting point about ethics.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
I've made my stance and I apprecaite yours but if I were a billionaire and had earned it from hard work, damn right I'd enjoy it
. However, I would still give to charity and I'm sure that some, I know not all but some, of the people that have those yatchs do put kids through school on scholarships and give their share of charity. With that I'll respectfully step off my tiny soap box
.

That's just it - I don't believe many millionaires work hard enough or earn their money. I know people who work their asses off and get nowhere while rich people come into the marina everyday just to BS and check on their boats. They certainly don't work hard and seem to have no concept of it. The president of my last company showed up to the office for a day or two a week at best with the rest of the time spent playing golf in nice weather who knows what the rest of the time.
Yeah, neurosurgeons and the few great CEOs like Carlos Ghosn earn it, but most are nothing more than robber barrons or inheretors exploiting the lower class. How many CEOs cash in and sell out or just plain old suck yet still get their 7 figure bonuses (J Nassar of Ford, for instance)? The guys beneath them who aren't responsible for the megalomaniac asses' bad decisions just get fired. Rich people's charitable donations are little more than tax write offs. Very cynical, I know, but my familiarity with humans is the natural cause. And get this: I like the people up here better than most!
