I've been curious lately...

Who has influenced you to mod your car? Who has what you were/are trying to acheive? What got you started?

My car hero's have been split a few times.

Jason's Boostjunkie got me first bit. I thought it would be awesome to get to a point like that. I never thought I'd have it.

Then, it was/is Matt's (Legacy92ej22t's) Subarina. The first, modded, stock turbo that I had seen and ridden in.

As soon as I rode in that thing, it was all over. Giggling like a little school girl, I knew I'd soon have a beast to rival Matt's car. We were pretty much mod-for-mod for a long time too.

I also have been greatly influenced by Vikash. He always has a good way to ghetto fix the car, and that has knowledge has been invaluable to me (if not everyone at least once). Plus, he has the same Old School Simpsons T-shirt that I have :)

Both of those cars have influenced me to create what I have today. I'm sure I'd still be pretty stock if it weren't for them.

So what about yous guys? Who do you look up to?

I must say that I look up to the ballers and shot callers of the world, They were the inspiration for my (2) TV's, DVD player, (2) 12 inch subwoofers, and about 1400watts. Not to mention the JVC MP3 deck and the kenwood coaxials all the way around.

Her name's Rae. When I was going through my honda phase, I met her, she has a black dumped accord wagon, that's referred to as the "kittywagon"

The first actual people i got in contact with after purchasing my first subie were Matt Sciccitano (Shik), Josh, some guys on an oooold Subaru board, Justin (EJ20G turbo swap), Matt (hugely boosted 91 turbo), and then everyone in the eGroups/Yahoo Group. Lex was instrumental in convincing me that the 4EAT -> 5MT swap could be done, by doing it first and letting me lean on his experience.

Jason Grahn talked me into this, and it's definitely attracted a number of very helpful and influential people: ciper, vrg3, eastbay, BACS, laurel, THAWA.. and the list goes on.

Most of my mods came as a result of autocrossing, so the team i'm with had a huge influence on that. Kevin Williams on NASIOC helped me try and figure out suspension stuff.

I have actually met a few people on this board, though only 2-3 live in Utah. azn2nr is down in SLC, and there's another board member who lives between here and there.

I got to meet a lot the really "important" people in the Subie community because of the site, and more specifically, this board. SOA inviting me to Detroit and Las Vegas to see the new Legacy put me in a position to meet Alex (i-club, Imprezer), Nick (NASIOC), Jamie (SubieGal) and Scott Putnam, along with Bob and AJ from Edmunds, to name a few.

My most remote influence was when i got to meet anotherB4 (Anton), Shirokuma (Paul) and Jeff over in Tokyo. They treated me great and showed me the cool JDM stuff.

You seem to have SO much fun with your car and modding it, that it's contagious! I want to be able to mod my car, and come up with great ideas just like you have!

When it comes to my Subaru I would have to say that Matty was the influence. His constant bragging, impetuous modding and persistence pushed me over the edge. Just kidding, it was a ride he took me for one day during band practice to go pick my snare up that started it all. Do you remember that, Matt.

When it comes to all time heroes I would have to say Evil Kaneevil (sp).

when i was first looking for info on the car before i bought it my influence was boostjunkie. his website egnited the fire. after that it was phil. though i wanted to do something different with the 39 and for that i looked to magicmike. now that im at the point where i cant go any farther with what i have and new mods are starting a long list i look to a few local guys that have done the craziest things to their subes mostly using all the best parts form every generation and then some. the person i most want to emulate in the legacy world now though is evade over on rsliberity. and to help me wiht that goal is another local guy who is teaching me how to build garret kits.

as for just getting into cars that would have to be my cousin. when i was a kid he had everything. though i would never want to follow his line in not going to school and wroking hard for years for toys and living with his mom till he was 30. i do want to have his lifestyle. even today he has an influence just not in the same way. when i was young he had bimmers with systems galore. every year was a different m3 and this year it was 2 m3's. now hes a chairman of the local scca chapter and has a couple of evos.

and finaly for the person who made me a GM guy was my best friend since kindergarten. he got a really rare third gen bird in highschool at the same time i was into hondas. he turned me away form the big bees in a can to something better. but since i wanted to be able to compete with him and still be able to get home in the winter(live on a huge hill) i turned to subaru and thats where my story at the top of the post begins

That's right, crude, rude, blunt, and upfront! I'm teh mastarmind that started this project. Now pay homage, yo. ;)

Who influenced me to mod my car? the rally community. I'm a victim of my own success. The better i get in rally, the cooler i want my daily; then i go about breaking it. At first i wanted to achieve really cool things like power and side-ways-ness, then it changed to "reliability."

No one has ever touched any of these cars except him, and that includes body, paint, engine and tranny rebuilding, every nut and bolt.

He still has the last five on the list. And just sent me an email yesterday about how he's going to "smoke" me in the Mini now that he got all his poly bushings put in.

YA, I see him a few times a year. He's married with children now. He hasn't had the SS for quite a while now and he had a rex for a while but IIRC he sold that too for something more family friendly. He's actually the driving force behind the East Coast Subaru Shootout. He worked at W&L Subaru for a long time but only works there part time now if at all. Next time I see him I'll tell him hi for you guys. :)

Josh (Legacy777) was my first influence, back when I frequented NASIOC. His car was exactly the same as mine in every aspect, so seeing what he had done to it made me look for ideas for my own car. My dad supported me along the way, making suggestions, helping out in the actual modification process, etc. For continued modification, I look up to Ciper (for his automatic transmission work) and vrg3 (for his general-specific knowledge and coolness). I don't know most of you guys yet, but I'm learning slowly. I can say this much; we've got some damn cool people here! I'm not gonna make a list, though, 'cause that would take a while. ^-^;

David Richards (Prodrive) convinced me that Subarus could kick ass as well as be fun and got me considering this Legacy instead of giving up on Subaru when I couldn't find anymore decent EA81s. This board (no one in particular, but Dave's trasmission swap, Vikash's knowledge, Jason's car, and the ride I got in Matt's car were the biggest influences) convinced me on how feasible it is to transplant.

Since we're going with real people, ill try to rephrase my reply.

I'm more or less entirely self-inspired. I had to rebuild the engine on my first car, a 78 bmw 320i, when i was 15 before i could drive it. I got some help from my dad, but he hates dealing with cars despite being very knowlegeable, it's curious. The accomplishment of getting that car running, and eventually rather quick, inspired continued interest. Bad mechanics furthered my need to learn for myself.

As for modifying the legacy, i knew more or less what i wanted out of the car, and got it. I didn't really care who else had something similar. I'd like a little more power and more fade resistant brakes, but im pretty much done altering it.

There are definately some people here that i admire, esp ciper and vrg, both have encyclopedias under their hair and can really think outside the box. My admiration has nothing to do with cars though.
