Stupid...Stupid....Stupid.

Post by 92BlackBeauty »

So I knew I was experiencing an oil leak due to a worn gasket, but thought I would leave it until my next servicing, or until I installed my MBC this weekend.
Driving down one of the country roads by my house, the gasket apparently decided to crack and all of my oil spilled out, ran the engine dry.
Knowing not to keep running like this, I had the car towed back to my house and topped up my oil to a healthy level. I started the car, hoping for the best, but it was too late. The knocking and grinding stopped for a little while, about 10 mins, and then it came back with a vengeance and seized...
Now, I have to troubleshoot my 92 legacy turbo and either rebuild it, or sell it.(If sold I have a little bit of cash on the side that would result in a 1989 Skyline 8) ) But really, I would love to keep the old scooby.
Anyone have any predictions on what I am going to find when stripping the engine?

Any help is appreciated.

I would expect to find the bearing material wiped pretty roughly from the steel backing of your engine bearings, and your crank journals will show similar wear...

Douglas is a maniac, i believe him.

It took me much less time to pull the legacy engine than it did to replace a head gasket on a mitsu.

I think I was saying 3 hours ONCE THE ENGINE WAS PULLED. Big difference! Also this DIDN'T include cracking the block and new bearings, just pulling pistons and installing new rings.

I hope I didnt come across as saying I did the whole thing in 3 hours :D

Sorry to hear about your engine. If it's any reconciliation, my brother once ran his 83? (it was old) jetta low on oil and it threw one of the bolts that holds the piston halves together out the side of his engine block. Put a hole in about the size of a tennis ball.

Either way Douglas, you're still a maniac... :)

An engine can be pulled and rebuilt in a day and easily in a weekend.
