What the hell was that??? ( engine did weird thing)

Post by legacycontinues »

I have been driving the legacy around all day with no problems. I come home from the drug store and as I am coasting into my driveway the car begins to shake like both motormounts went out and something went horribly wrong with the internals of the engine. I throw it in park, jump out and pop the hood. The engine looks like me during one of my bad seizures. I give it the visual inspection and can find nothing wrong. so I shut it off for a few minutes and then fire it up. It still shakes.

I figure it's time for me to purchase a new car so I wonder what it would look like to see a Roo engine granade. I floor the gas and redline that puppy for a good 30 seconds....nothing happens. In fact it runs better than when I got the car.

To this I say....What the FARK????

Just turn the idle speed up some more and it'll clear that problem right up. ;)

Actually, you might be experiencing some of those drivability problems I was talking about in that other thread... With the throttle plate blocked open the ECU's idle control is no longer appropriately calibrated.

Or maybe you have a small vacuum leak or a dirty MAF sensor.

Well, that's not necessarily the problem. It could be that whatever was originally causing the rough idle is now more pronounced for some reason. Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor or checking for vacuum leaks?

Sounds like really bad misfires like when I blast the engine at the car wash and don't bother to cover the ignition.

I would be inclined to agree with the misfiring and that your pressure washing was the problem. My ignition coils get wet when I'm out doing water splashes and screwing around in the slush and this usually results in some misfiring, esspecially down low, until things dry out some.

Sounds right about the misfiring. I had the similar symptoms when one of my injectors went south.

After pressure washing my car, I found that getting the crank sensor wet ,accidentally, will create the shakity, shake and mis fire like mad for a few minutes.
