My PS2 is fixed!
After getting hundreds of disc read errors, I hacked it apart enough to get it to read GT4. Now its highly modded, check out the HKS SBV!!

It's much more efficient, the power weight ratio is crazy now. The SBV also serves as cooling since the fan was scrapped to save weight. If I need to tow it has its own flatbed that follows it around!

I did this too after Scott did. Very painless, cost $6 and it now has worked perfect ever since I got it back. It was only away from me for around 6 days too.creel wrote:I sent mine to a Sony repair center by calling the toll free number after it started giving me disc read errors. Oh and mine was waaaaaay out of warranty. I'd had it for 3 years and they still did it no questions asked.

They had a major issue with them so they're taking care of it. Unfortunately for my brother-in-law, he threw his out before he heard that.
With that souped up PS2, there's no need to go for the PS3 when it comes out!

Give it a shot, I think they're repairing them as it's a known defect and they're trying kick-ass customer service. It's like when Toyota replaced a few hundred engines because of clogged oil passages that happened when pwople neglected oil changes. Instead of paasing it back onto the customer for neglect, they ate the cost. But guess what kind of car those customers will likely buy again and how many people they tell about Toyota's stand-up service? VW, on the other hand, has similar issues that are not so clear-cut a case of neglect on the customer's part (or even their fault at all) and they're hanging their customers out to dry. Guess how many people won't be buying another VW and how many hear these horror stories and move on to another mfg's dealership when they go for a new car? Sony reminds me a lot of Toyota anyway, so I'd give it a shot. At least call first.
